Feminists trip up on man tax
The Sunday Times ^ | 10/23/5 | Matthew Campbell

Spare a thought for Swedish feminists whose newly formed party is disintegrating after hardliners presented a manifesto advocating a “man tax”, the abolition of marriage and the creation of “gender-neutral” names. Sweden already boasts one of the highest levels of female participation in the workplace and some observers questioned the need for a feminist party in a country whose women account for half the seats in parliament.

When it was founded six months ago, polls showed that a quarter of voters would consider supporting Feminist Initiative in elections next year because of rising domestic violence against women and higher salaries for men. That goodwill seems to have faded after the party’s recent founding congress, however, when radicals such as Tiina Rosenberg, a professor of gender studies, appeared to have secured control of the agenda. The resulting platform included proposals for abolishing marriage and changing the law to let people who undergo sex change operations legally alter their names.

The party called also for the creation of more “gender-neutral” names such as “Robin” or “Norva” that could apply to a boy or a girl. At present parents must choose names from an official list for boys or girls.

Rosenberg resigned from the governing board after complaining of an “anti-feminist backlash” and insulting personal attacks in the Swedish media, where she was ridiculed as part of the “lunatic left”.

Gudrun Schyman, another founding member of the party, came to her defence last week. “The reason for this campaign against her is that she’s a lesbian,” she said. “The attacks against her are homophobic.”

A former Swedish Communist party leader and author of erotic verse, Schyman once demonstrated her sense of fun by posing naked for a newspaper behind a red umbrella. But conservative male politicians do not find her amusing. She advocates what she calls a “man tax to cover the cost of violence against women in the home” but has stopped short of endorsing the opinions of Ireen von Wachenfeldt, who until recently ran one of Sweden’s largest state shelters for battered women. In a recent television documentary called The Gender War, she proclaimed: “Men are animals.”

The documentary noted that the shelter had printed excerpts of an extremist American feminist manifesto called Scum, which stands for the Society for Cutting Up Men. In it, women are urged to “destroy the male sex” and seize the chance made possible by science of giving birth only to females.

Of course. It's evidently impossible to be a lesbian and a lunatic. At least it is in ultra-brainy Liberal Land.

Eaten up with guilt, shame, fears and insecurities and obtaining, if he's lucky, a barely perceptible physical feeling, the male is, nonetheless, obsessed with screwing; he'll swim a river of snot, wade nostril-deep through a mile of vomit, if he thinks there'll be a friendly pussy awaiting him.

Nice talk, girls.

"Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation and destroy the male sex."

I bet she got a lot of dates.

A "man tax" ehh....?.......and for those with one ball half tax....and eunuchs get a free ride (no pun intended)

Seems they need a chapter of the Second Amendment Sisters out there....would stop all this abuse nonsense in dead its tracks (more unintended puns)

Crude language, yes, but who can argue with the main clause?

I will thank God forever that my great-grandfather had the foresight to leave this looney bin back in 1884.

For all you socialist libs out there who worship at the altar of the Swedish nanny state: If Sweden were a US state, it would be the poorest state per-capita in the union. Poorer than West Virginia, poorer than Mississippi, poorer than Arkansas.

Well I heard of a "flat tax" (no pun intended) but the new Swedish tax code is:

Women....taxed on cup size.proportionally rated between ..AA to DDDD size

Men....additional 30% tax

One ball....additional 15% tax

Eunuchs....No additional tax

Shemales....Reduction in tax by 20%

"At present parents must choose names from an official list for boys or girls."

That's unbelievable.

This can't mean what it appears to mean. Swedish parents are required to name their child from a government-approved list?

In many countries where people are of the same language and origin the names are considered as standard words requiring proper spelling and established meaning/origin. Same with pronunciation.

And for example in Poland you rather should not name your son John, you will be expected to use Polish word for this name - Jan (Yan). If you insisted on using John then you would need to use spelling Dzon ("z" with dot above). Why? Polish language is phonetic. And in Polish you do not have "John the Baptist"or "Agios Ioannis Prodromos", you have "Jan Chrzciciel".

Scandinavians are funny about names. My grandfather, born in 1878, did not have a last name, just a patronymic based on his father's name. Swedes who joined the army chose last names from an approved list. Later, the government published lists so that the entire population could choose last names. First names were even more confusing. There weren't a lot of them, and many individuals spelled their names three or four different ways at various times. Now, first names are also regulated -- and are supposed to reflect nationality. Years ago, I knew a Thai woman married to a Dane who was not permitted to give her baby (born in Denmark) a Thai first name. Not allowed.

Sweden keeps an official list of "namesdays". Maybe that's what the article refers to:

So to simply question the homosexual agenda is hateful, but imposing a "man tax" is not? I wonder if imposing a homo tax would be hateful or open minded?

These Feminists are trying to ban marriage? I wonder if homosexuals will still be allowed to marry under Swedish law.

The American left wants us to be more like Sweden.

The article is correct; in a number of European countries there are indeed lists of permitted names for newborns, and they won't permit a birth certificate with a name not on that list. Periodically there are fights about whether or not to add some proposed name which is popular in other countries.
