MIAMI Oct 22, 2005 Tropical Storm Alpha formed Saturday in the Caribbean, setting the record for the most named storms in an Atlantic hurricane season and marking the first time forecasters had to turn to the Greek alphabet for names.
The previous record of 21 named storms had stood since 1933. Alpha was the 22nd to reach tropical storm strength this year, and the season doesn't end until Nov. 30.
At 5 p.m. EDT, Alpha had sustained winds of about 40 mph 1 mph over the threshold for a tropical storm.

We need to use the World War II miltary alphabet, Able, Baker Charlie, Dog, Easy....... IIRC, I think they did that in 1950 and from what I have read, Hurricanes Dog and Easy were bd ones.
Interesting graphic... any chance of Wilma and Alpha combining?
Hopefully we won't get to Omega.
Well, if this isn't a sign for a toga party, I don't know what is.
"Alpha (the first number in the Greek alphabet)"

Should have been Hurricane Able Danger
But what if we go past Omega? The alphabet in ebonics?
Yo!
whyat about letters "x", "y" and "z"? Does anyone know why they are not used? It's not as though there are no names starting with these letters...it's just that they're uncommon. (Xander, Xavier, Xenia, Yanni, Yuri, Zoe, ZhaZha )
or Xdemocrat. Hehehehe.
Hurricane "X-wife" or husband or girlfriend or "partner"
