Argentina yesterday officially complained to Britain about a Foreign Office warning to British tourists about the dangers of visiting Argentina at the time of the Summit of the Americas.

LAS MALVINAS SON ARGENTINAS!
" LAS MALVINAS SON ARGENTINAS!"
Think we already settled that one...
Of course, the Brits were already in the process of relinquishing the Malvinas, when oil was suddenly discovered off the coast. Then all of the sudden, the Tory back benchers got all butch about maintaining the empire again.
When is BP going to start drilling in the Falklands?
Malvinas? Must be on the Moon, in Tranquility Sea.
When oil hits $85-$90 a barrel. Drilling is very expensive, but was a consideration back in 1981.
Been awhile since the Faulklands war. Maybe Argentina needs another ass whoopin?
Drop this "Malvinas" rubbish. They're called the Falklands. The issue was resolved when we knocked the stuffing out of the Argies.
Ironic that the warnings have come to fruition.
"If only Jeanne Kirpatrick had had her way, and the US would have condemned the Brits..."
Yeah sure. Its a horrible horrible thing to got to war to defend your own citizens who have been forcibly conquered by a regime which consistently "misplaced" several hundreds of its own people on an annual basis. I think the British should have been roundly condemned by the world community, especially after they drove the Argentinians off - I mean, is that rewarding aggression or WHAT?

Oh the British government was dead keen to get rid of the islands. What an embarrassing link to the evil colonial past they were, when the Islands were occupied and the native population of ...err...penquins was oppressed. Unfortunately, the actual people living on the islands now inconveniently wanted to stay British, in spite of all promptings and reassurances. So, being citizens and having this thing called "free will" and "self-determination" (look it up...its a democracy thing) the government they adhered to was forced to protect their interests, inconvenient though they were. Several hundred lives and many many millions in cash later, the UK is still down on the deal - not one drop of oil having been extracted, and high grade kelp not having a great commercial value. Gee...that must mean they operated from..Principle? Wow, could that be? How amazing.
Its possible there might be some sarcasm in this post. Just possible.
Unlike the UK, Argentina successfully dealt with a communist insurgency.
"Unlike the UK, Argentina successfully dealt with a communist insurgency."
Well, Im not sure what relevance that has to anything in the South Atlantic. It certainly doesn't justify Argentine actions there. Anyway, Britain has very successfully dealt with a lot of commies.
For example the PFLOAG in Oman.
Or how about the defeat of the Communists in the Malaysian emergency?
Perhaps you could ask the INLA in Ireland?
Or even the Viet Cong? Yes, before the US, before the French, Britain was in there. Kept them well suppressed.
Or the communist inspired Mau-Mau uprising in Kenya?
keep on trying to get it write
