Do you think that if she withdraws, will that imbolden the Dem's to be even more overbearing? That they won, forcing her to withdraw, even though it's the conservatives that are upset? I am not thrilled with her as a nominee, really hoping for Janice Rogers Brown, but Bush seems to be very confident in her.

Tough call.

Reminds me of Wilma just sitting there, churning away. While everybody has an opinion, nobody knows where this is going to go.

Meanwhile, we are suffering fatigue just watching.

If she withdraws it will be because she didn't have conservative support. A truly conservative replacement would have such support, and would unify the party.

This might be a low blow, but Bush was also very confident in finding stockpiles of WMD's in Iraq.

If she withdraws, the left will scream that Bush is beholden to "extreme special interest groups"...the "fringe whacko right" and will terrify soccer moms about their daughters going to prison for abortions. They will demand a judge of moderation and paint every subsequent candidate as an extremist.

They would have done this anyway, but by putting Miers up first and withdrawing her, they will be able to claim...SOMEWHAT RIGHTLY...that far right special interests forced Bush to withdraw her and put a more "extreme" candidate in her place.

Wait. Which Dims did this? Harry Reid endorsed her. So did my Dim senator. Even Feinstein sounds ready to vote for her.

If she's withdrawn, it will be because of conservatives' opposition among both Beltway elite and grassroots.

So a withdrawal might cause the Dims to fight harder especially if Bush nominates someone like JRB. But it won't be because they sunk the Miers nomination. Far from it.
