PIRRO V. THE PERV-PROTECTORS
Westchester DA Jeanine Pirro, who has the... task of trying to unseat Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, finds herself under ferocious attack...
At issue are her remarks this week to the Chemung County Republicans in Elmira, where she ripped into Democratic leaders for their continued opposition to a bill to let the state confine violent sexual predators in mental hospitals after they serve their criminal sentences.
"That's a difference between Democrats and Republicans," said Pirro. "We don't want them next door molesting children and murdering women."
Not surprisingly, Democrats are shrieking hysterically over what..(is)... labeled "an affront to common decency and an outrageous insult to . . . law-abiding Democrats."
They're demanding an apology.
Pirro says no.
Good for her because, however inartfully she phrased it, she's right..
As The Post first reported, Gov. Pataki has authorized .... use.. (of).. existing civil-confinement laws to detain violent sex offenders beyond their original sentences.
Unfortunately, those laws weren't written to apply to sexual predators...snip
There wouldn't be a problem, however, if the Legislature passed a law like those enacted by 16 states and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court explicitly covering sexual offenders.
Since 1998, Pataki has pressed the Legislature to do just that. Six times, the GOP-controlled Senate has done so. But each time, the bill has died in the Democratic-controlled Assembly because Speaker Sheldon Silver has refused to let it come to a vote...
As for Hillary Clinton, her office says she favors a civil-confinement law.
Good now let her use her position as the state's most prominent Democrat to send Sheldon Silver the message that the rest of her party won't: Blocking this bill protects sexual predators.
Until that happens, Jeanine Pirro is fully justified in raising the issue...

Would this affect the bent one?

A district attorney is what the Republicans came up with to run against Hillary? It doesn't really sound like the party's heart is in this.
I wonder how this civil commitment works... do you claim that they are still a danger to themselves or others and go to a judge for a hearing? If so why can't they do it without a new law... In Georgia it is trivial to get such a hearing..you just need two people to say to a judge that the person that to a judge.
"Who do you have in mind?"
I don't know who is available and willing but it just seems like you need a major effort with a big name to go after Hillary.
And the national party should be helping - If Hillary lost the senate seat her Presidential run would be weakened.
I know Edward Cox (Nixon's son-in-law) is a candidate, but he's way to conservative for NY.
Make that a liberal district atty. I don't know about the state, but my heart isn't in it. Frankly, I'm disappointed Cox pulled out, but he's no dummy. He knows the party leadership has already made their decision.
I Hate NY...and I live there...albeit, in one of the only conservative pockets...upstate and east.
I even brought a Lazio yard sign home and put it in my yard next to my Bush-Cheney sign just to drive my only liberal Clinton loving neighbor nuts!
All the major cities are Dem, so frankly, Pataki hasn't really been able to do much. You'd think people would understand that the probs with the state are caused by the liberal-minded city governments and the corruption in the Dem party machine.
("Denny Crane: Gun Control? For Communists. She's a liberal. Can't hunt.")
Good for her. She's a brawler, just like Guiliani.
Democrat = Denial
