ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Six teenagers at West Mesa High School faced charges Friday after a police officer said the students jumped him.
Steven Anzures is a senior at West Mesa. He gets good grades, and he's excited about college. But, Anzures said Albuquerque police officers jumped him, and his younger brother, Ray, while they were at school.
"(The officer) shoved his knee in my face and started scraping it on the pavement," Steven Anzures said.
"He was all bleeding on the side of his face, and his eyes were closed," Ray Anzures said.
The teens said the fight started when some of their friends dropped off some food, which officers mistook for a drug deal.
"I never knew getting lunch from a car is a gang fight," Steven Anzures said.
APD officials said the group in the car has caused problems in the past. An officer told them to leave.
"In doing so, he (the officer) was jumped by a couple of people," said John Walsh of the Albuquerque Police Department.
Diane Anzures said her children have never been in serious trouble, nor would they attack a police officer.
"They're great kids," she said.
The criminal complaint said there were no drugs or weapons found. But it also said the officers were threatened and attacked by the students.
Diane Anzures believes the officer used too much force.
"He abused his authority, and his job, and I don't think he should be working with students," she said. "He should be working at a prison with the big guys."
Just a few months before graduation, Steven Anzures said he now is worried about fighting off a felony charge, instead of keeping up his grades.
Action 7 News tried contacting the school for a comment, but security officials said it was a police matter.
The police department said they followed procedures, and kept a violent situation from escalating.
"They're great kids," she said.
Too bad the biggest 'kids' in the school are wearing badges and running the place.
What a sad situation. I hope the senior gets his record cleared completely.
Could be trouble for the tax payers.
We have to hear the policeman's side.
For it to be legitimate for the other kids to become physically involved the policeman would have had to attacked the student without giving him any chance to surrender or telling him he was under arrest and without him attempting to flee.
If all that happened then it would appear the policeman committed a serious crime.
But we need to hear from witnesses and the police.

Perfect assignment for this police "officer", imo.
There is no such thing as a "permanent record."
Hopefully they beat the cop down good.
Six high school students jumped a police officer. Happens all the time. Why are you looking at me like that? They really did jump a police officer! 'Cause if they didn't, the poor widdle police officer might be guilty of false arrest and assault. And we can't have that, now can we?
The War on Durgs justifies all, and cancels out all of your rights.
Any one who disagrees just wants to get children hooked on crack.
Just ask your friendly neighborhood narco agent.
Bingo.
Hope there was a security camera.
Media headlines are so funny:
Students Arrested After Lunch Mistaken For Drug Deal
I guess technically it is true but you could also say:
Students Arrested After Bill Clinton dumps Monica Lewinsky and it would be just as accurate.
It's a shame we now have to rely on things like that now as credible witnesses.
Either you forgot the 'sarcasm' tag or you are high on something.
"We have to hear the policeman's side."
Why would we believe the policeman. He has plenty of motive to lie to get himself out of trouble.

In the not-too-distant future, honest people will choose
to wear 24x7 micro-cams, wirelessly linked to an
archiving system, just so they can prove their innocence.
They'll also end up witnessing some crimes, and the first
time a politician gets nailed by someone wearing a
micro-cam, expect legislation to restrict them. At the
very least, you'll be required to have a blinking red
LED on the cam lens.
"Why would we believe the policeman. He has plenty of motive to lie to get himself out of trouble. "
I don't know... just this little idiosyncracy I have about hearing both sides before I leap to conclusions.
I wonder if that was the problem. I wonder if these two kids were attacked by "officers" not in uniform and not wearing badges.
I agree it is a sad situation. It is getting worse and it is ashame that any person is limited in means and has to go to government schools. The need for vouchers grows daily.
