I loved it when college outlawed the dunk many years ago They outlawed it in the late 60s because of the dominance of UCLA Bruin Lew Alcindor (aka Kareem Abdul Jabbar). Coincidentally the ban was lifted right after the Bruin mega-dynasty ended (in '76).

I remember it well. The Jabbar rule or Alcindor rule. But, it made the game better in my opinion. Players actually had to learn to shoot. That is why I like the movie Hoosiers. The guy coached basketball the way it was invented to be played. My high school coach would not even let us shoot the first two or three days of practice. We ran drills, passing, dribbling, rebounding, etc. Then we started our shooting with simple layups. At the end of practice, you had to shoot at least 50 free throws every day. I grew up in Alabama. My old HS coach played at Bama and was a top 3 rebounder his senior year. And, he was 6 - 4.
