(CNSNews.com) - How preoccupied is the White House by its problems, President Bush was asked during a joint appearance with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday. President Bush said he has a job to do - and he's doing it.
"There's some background noise here - a lot of chatter and speculation and opining -- but the American people expect me to do my job, and I'm going to," he said.
President Bush said he's devoting his efforts to peace in the Middle East, the economy, rebuilding after the Gulf Coast hurricanes, and preparing for Hurricane Wilma.
Asked about Harriet Miers' Supreme Court nomination, President Bush said he "thought it made a lot of sense" to choose someone who hadn't been a judge, even though he admitted it's an "unusual" situation.
Bush repeated his admiration for Miers' achievements and her judicial philosophy, and he said Miers will answer all the questions that senators may have. He said the questionnaire she filled out - only to have it criticized as incomplete by leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee -- "does show Harriet's judicial philosophy."
On Wednesday, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), the committee chairman, said Miers should redo the questionnaire because her first answers didn't go far enough.
Sen. Patrick Leahy, the committee's ranking Democrat, said some senators had complained that Miers' responses "ranged from incomplete to insulting."
Well said Mr. President. And it's just that....noise.
That's real sweet. And I'm thrilled (and oh-so-surprised) that Arlen Specter is working hard to kill the President's court nominee.
Sorry. Flame on..But Bush may as well just burn the Constitution on the Whitehouse steps..because he is NOT doing his job and protecting this country.
