Zeroisanumber,
You have fallen into the trap of the left. Religion is important to our founding fathers and it shows in Constitution and other USA owner's manuals (should be required reading for all). There is no seperation of church and state, but limiting Congress from preventing them from making a certain religion the only one or banning a group just because they don't like Catholics.
If the community is great majority of Christian, then why should they have to put up Islamic or Jewish displays. Not saying if those groups want to put up displays on public spaces, then should be allowed and give room.
The Conderate Flag has many means, just like any symbol. Slavery was an issue that led up to the Civil War, but the Slavery issue was brought to get more Union folk to sign up to continue the war effort. The South almost won, even being out-numbered and out-supplied. The North illegally invaded the south after the states removed themselves from the union in a legal manner: a vote by the state governments and a general election in some states.
Slavery would have ended in much better manner than by the sword: Technology. The forced nature of their freedom increased the hatred for blacks, which until the 60's suffered under harsh laws and policies both north and south. A good section of the Union had no interest in fighting to free the slaves and several generals have made a comment on the subject. The country had a good chance of returning together after their problems were resolved, but Lincoln did not want to be the president holding the bag of "politic" shit. He invaded on a flimsy excuse and his papers that attempted to make it legal misses many landminds that made it: illegal. Just avoid talking about it and hopefully no one will notice.
"filing discrimination suits and attending counseling sessions..."
Let's not forget the "Candlelight vigils"!!
At least the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan aren't wimps.
Historically , the BSA never had the reference to God in the oath until the cold war kicked in, "under God" was added to a lot of organizations oaths and pledges to fight those godless commies. The oath is a cold war relic. But now the folks running the show at the BSA turn an increasingly secular population away from scouting because of it (... I guess running with the theory that only kids who have religion can be "morally straight"). Freedom works both ways, I'll exercise my right to call the folks running the BSA self-righteous dillholes and take my children elsewhere. But I support their right to be self-righteous dillholes, but don't expect be to give them a damn penny of my tax dollars.

whatever that is.
Enough whining already! Enjoy the little time we have here on earth. Have some fun. Dig it now!
The rest of the world is going to do what it's going to do whether you smile or cry.
So, smile! And, trust God.
