Metro has a way with words to change behavior of riders

Webster's Dictionary doesn't define "conseaterate," but subway and bus riders will learn the meaning from new signs. A Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority ad campaign introduced yesterday is aimed at getting riders to change some behaviors. For example, a "doorker" is defined as a "person who crowds or blocks Metro doors, making it difficult for others to exit or enter promptly." "There's one called 'conseaterate,' which is a blending of the words considerate and seat," Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato said. "And the meaning for that is 'thoughtful toward others who are more in need of a Metrorail or Metrobus seat.'?"

I hate the DC Metro. Constantly delayed or late, and those on the days they don't run someone over or play the "ram trains together" game. Add in high prices (costs 12 dollars a day for me to ride metro to work) and it's a worthless solution.

Also I'm not sure I get the point of advertising for the metro. It's like VDOT paying 1.7 million a year for a campaign getting people to use HW 95. Or the electric company advertising...well you get the picture.

The campaign was created by the LM&O advertising agency, which has a $1.73 million contract this year with Metro.

So those were the people I saw laughing on the way to the bank.

I actually like the Metro. It can be very convenient at times. However, I did see someone getting a Lewinsky in the corner seat just a few weeks ago.

I hate the delays as well. Are they still working on the blue and yellow lines? It has taken me 2 hours to get home on the darn weekends the last 2 times I rode the Metro. Heck, I am heading down there tonight for a play.

I actually think the metro is pretty useful when it comes to the short hops, or doing it every once in a while to go into DC.
Riding every 5/7 days a week for the next 41 years is more than I want to think about. I have to get on at Springfield if i want to take it to work. :/ Because of that I haven't commuted via metro for about 8 months, back then it was usually the red line that was delayed. When it comes to commuting to work, I'll take the 8 lane parking lot :)

I wish 'em luck with their ad campaign. Around where I live, it's almost impossible to find anyone willing to give up a seat, for example. But then again, it's the mentality the transit authority has created. We have awful service and perpetually crowded conditions...even more so, now that gas is so high. Courtesy has gone out the window. These days when the bus pulls up, it's every man (and woman) for himself.

And when it comes to loud talkers and people shouting into their cell phones -- I'm just grateful I carry my portable CD player with me. I can turn it up loud enough to drown out the nitwits around me.

I was in DC, and was shocked to find out they close the Metro on nights and weekend evenings. What kind of Subway system closes down at 6:00 on Sundays? I wound up walking from Georgetown to Silver Spring...

"What kind of Subway system closes down at 6:00 on Sundays? "

Maybe you got a "work weekend". It's normally open until midnight on Sundays.

On the positive side, it's open until 3am on weekends, which makes a heck of a lot more sense than the T in Boston which stops at 12:30 when clubs/bars are open until 2.
