Spanish judge orders arrest of three US soldiers
Jerusalem Post ^ | Oct. 19, 2005 | AP

Posted on 10/19/2005 6:47:04 AM PDT by ScaniaBoy

A Spanish judge has issued an international arrest order for three US soldiers whose tank fired at a Baghdad hotel during the war in Iraq, killing a Spanish journalist, a court official said Wednesday.

Jose Couso, who worked for the Spanish television network Telecinco, died April 8, 2003, after the tank crew fired a shell at the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad where many journalists were staying to cover the war.

The Spanish judge said he issued the arrest order because of a lack of judicial cooperation from the United States regarding the case.

US officials insist the soldiers believed they were being shot at when they opened fire.

"CHIRAC wanted to cancel the mention, in the project of european constitution,of the christian roots,among others,of our culture ."

It wasn't Chirac specifically, but it doesn't really matter; the point was to throw god out of the constitution, not the history.

Everyone knows what European history contains, but the constitution is not a thing of the past, but of the future.

Gay marriage/adoption... why not? I'm a sociologist, I have more knowledge on the topic, and the only counterargument against adoption that I think is sensible (excluding the religious bs) is the social stigma of the children from the side of the ignorant society.

Europe simply accepts the fact that there is more than one religion (60% of europe is atheistic, most of the rest is christianity, the rest is counted in promiles - even the muslims, which cause less problems than american media wants you to know), and more than one way of solving the problem.
Atheists are the majority in Europe, they set the standards. Protestants are the majority in the USA, and they set the standards there. Neither of our ways is really comprehensible to the other side (I for one can't understand how people can have christian schools - a place where children are indoctrinated/brainwashed into believing that there is some sort of super being that can do anything it wants - but of course it needs you to believe in it, do things for him, give his church donations... and then, only then he'll do something for you.... I hope you sense the sarcasm in all of this).

"Ignorant eurotrash alert!"
Yes, that's one of the problems that Europeans have with Americans.
You call me ignorant, yet you know nothing of what I know, you call Europeans trash eventhough you were never in Europe. If I were to use some similar word about americans I would most likely get banned.

"We have fought both a revolution and a civil war on our ground. Apparently, you are under the impression those were unreal wars."
A REAL war is a war in which cities are being leveled with the ground, a REAL war is a war in which the civilians suffer daily, a REAL war is when one side tries to exterminate the other... that's what WWI and WWII were. Your revolution and Civil War were a joke compared to the carnage that Europe went through.
Your average american thinks that war is something can only happen in some other country, I pray that they never learn the truth.
The american settlers, those who fought for your freedom, those who fought against racism... they knew what war was, they knew parts of it. That knowledge is lost in your nation, and that is why you'll most likely see it again; because you'll simply be too stubborn and self assured to realize what happens when a real war starts.
World Wars, those were on a simply another level compared to all other wars; and other than the few remaining american veterans that fought in Europe, I doubt that anyone can imagine what was the truth about those wars.

" Considering the US rebuilt Europe"

West Germany and UK =/= whole of Europe. Yugoslavia didn't get help neither from the soviets or the americans, in fact the americans screwed us up and allowed Trieste to be taken away from Yugoslavia and gave it to Italy (of course, if you know some history you will of course know whose side Italy was for the majority of the war).

"perhaps you should just up?"
I presume you meant shut up. Actually I will respond to your whole post, but I'd like this spot to be used as a thank you note to all american veterans in WWII.
Europe was being overrun by its own stupidity and lust for war, you, the veterans were one of the things that helped in saving Europe, without you the soviets would have suffered more losses, without you UK might have been overrun, without you messing up rommel's plans in normandy Yugoslavia wouldn't have been able to keep its free zones and in the end liberating itself (either that, or the soviets would have annexed us).
I thank to all those veterans, because I believe that they fought for their ideals, our and their freedom. I also hope that the new american generations study their example a bit more detailed.

"Your socialist democratic gov'ts are totally unprepared and unwilling to defend themselves against jihadists. We're saving your ungrateful arses once again even if you are to stupidly arrogant to recognize it."

Once again I presume that you've never been to Europe. What jihadists? The one and only muslim that I know is the guy that I go and drink beer with (yes, alcohol is forbidden for muslims). Then sometimes my ex english teacher joins us (he's jewish) and we have a good debate on various topics.
Your MSM is trying to persuade you that muslims are somehow (over)running Europe, yet as someone who has been to quite a lot of European countries I can tell you that there are not that many muslims. Also, the same secularisation that applied to christians is doing its thing to the muslims. Sure, some countries have radical extremists (but then again, can you say Fred Phelps?) but those are being silenced by their own kind.
The only danger that Europe could be in does not lie with our xth secularized generation of members of various religions, but in immigrants - something that we're handling (better than the USA if I may add).

*try visiting Europe once, it might open your eyes to the world

PS: Slovenia, with its 2.000.000 people has 0 mosques and 2000 churches on 20.000 sqkm (that's only RC churches, not including other RC sacral objects). How serious of a problem do you think that muslims are?

Get ready for Al Gore, the Clintons, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, John Edwards, Moveon.org and the rest of the freaky left to start demanding we give in to these guys....

I wonder: could US judges here in the United States issue a warrant for members of Al Quada (and actually expect Spain to hand them over?) I doubt it. I'm sure Spain would be afraid said members wouldn't get a "fair trial".

What burns me up is that I remember when Spain got bombed and I even asked folks here to flag the Spanish Flag in solidarity. Then first, they turn tail and run and now this. Seems to me they need another Franco.

A REAL war is a war in which cities are being leveled with the ground, a REAL war is a war in which the civilians suffer daily,

I know that y'all think Europe is so special that only it has suffered but you know as much US history as you think I do European history. In our civil war we lost more lives than all our other wars combined up through Vietnam and we pretty much did to our southern states what we did to Germany, without the use of modern technology.

Your whiny refrain is the same old blame America stuff.

How serious of a problem do you think that muslims are?

Serious enough that our military is once again fighting a foreign war to ensure it stays on their turf and not ours.

Your assumption that Americans cannot remember or imagine or know the truth of war is as stupid as it is arrogant. It is the little deceit you console yourselves with. Rash Amercians do not understand the realities of war, so they rush to engage in them.

Over my dead body.

I am a peaceful man, who loves law and order. I am also a patriot.

But if any United States government allows these men to stand trial in a foreign country, then the social compact is broken.

http://www.constitution.org/jjr/socon_01.htm

If this comes to pass, that will be the time for each American to decide with whom their loyalties lie-
with the Government of the United States,
or with the People of the United States.

I don't think that the 180 (+/-) Leopard 2A4s Germany shifted to Spain are going to be of any use to the ~Spanish~ so-called 'cause.' Target practice.

Saddam's ex-Russian T-72s and T-55 rebuilds were target practice. Soviet tactical doctrine called for huge numbers of cheap-to-build tanks, swarming the enemy under by sheer weight of numbers. Saddam sent them out one-on-one with the Allies. And to make matters worse, he bought cheap Chinese knock-off ammo instead of the OEM Russky ammo.

The Leopard, OTOH, is a whole different animal. Same gun as the Abrams (we actually license the design from the Germans), NATO spec fire control, composite armor-
oh, yeah, and they can run underwater if they need to.

The Abrams is a great tank, no question. But it's not invulnerable. In the mobility/firepower/armor triangle of tank design, the Abrams favors mobility a bit.
One on one, between a Leopard and an Abrams, it comes down to who gets the first shot off.
Of course, this would require the Spaniards to be smart enough to protect their armor from American air power. . .

And we send 15,000 illegal immigrant Spanish-speakers as reparations.

PPS: Threathening another country with nukes (as some people indicated here)... think about it, in the end it doesn't really matter if you can destroy the world 1x or 1000x, in the end it's all dead. Even small european countries like Slovenia have both the technology and the means to produce nuclear weapons, but fact is that we don't need them, ergo we don't produce them. Threathening people with nukes just starts another MAD programs.

Yep! If you take the bigger European countries like Germany, Spain or Poland it would probably only days to produce some simple nukes (not to talk about the Frenchies and the Brits). Germany i.e.owns several tons of PU 239 out of its commercial nuclear power plants. Anyway I would not take some emotional contributions too serious since they do not represent the agenda of the US administration. ;-)

There will be no arrest and there will be no overreaction.

That would likely be considered an act of war.

Probably should be considered an act of war, but absolutely no chance whatsoever that it would be. No chance at all.

So now it's first Iraq, then Iran, and North Korea, and France, and the newly added.... Spain....

Hello, boys ... I'm baaaack ...

-------------------------------------------------------

"Over the Hills and Far Away" - modern version;
(from SHARPE'S EAGLE)

Four thousand dollars on the drum,
For those who’ll volunteer to come
And enlist to fight the foe today,
Over the hills and far away.

O’er the hills, we will attack
Afghanistan and then Iraq;
George Bush commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away.

When duty calls me, I must go
To stand and face another foe;
But part of me will always stray
Over the hills and far away.

O’er the hills, from sea to land,
Iraq, and then on to Iran;
George Bush commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away.

If I should fall to fight no more,
As many comrades did before,
Then ask the pipes and drums to play
"Over the hills and far away".

O’er the hills, pro patria,
Iran and then Arabia;
George Bush commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away.

Then fall in, lads, behind the drum,
With colours blazing like the sun,
Along the road to come what may,
Over the hills and far away.

O’er the hills we will advance,
Through Belgium, Germany, and France;
George Bush commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away."

---------------------------------------------------------

200 years from now, I want their children's children's children's children
to cower and cringe in fear whenever they hear the sounds of jet engines overhead
because their legends tell of fire from the sky.

I want them to hide in dark caves and holes in the earth,
shivering with terror whenever they hear the roar of diesel engines
because the tales of their ancestors talk about metal monsters
crawling over the earth, spitting death and destruction.

I want their mothers to be able to admonish them with
"If you don't behave, the Pale Destroyers will come for you",
and that will be enough to reduce them to quivering obesience.

I want the annihilation to be so complete that their mythology
will tell them of the day of judgment when the stern gods from across the sea
.. the powerful 'Mericans .. destroyed their forefathers' wickedness.
