Sorry, I guess I misinterpreted your remarks.

She wasn't my first choice either, but I don't think she will be the disaster that the FR gloomandoomers gang are so sure she will be.

Nothing, absolutely NOTHING, would unite FR's purists/UNAPPEASEABLES/political naif doom&gloomers. And an in your face contentious far right nominee would have been BORKED.

That "brazen food fight" would have done less than nothing to help the president, forward the Conservative Movement, and, in actuality, would have harmed the president, the Conservatives, and yes, those most ardent and vociferous posters and pundits, who are so anti-Miers now.

WHY? Well, for starters, who would be sent in to replace the BORKED one? Hmmmmm...Reagan sent in Ginsberg, the pothead college prof. That wouldn't fly, so we got Kennedy. Can you imagine what FR would be like with a repeat performance of that kind?

Of course, I doubt that this president would follow in those footsteps; however, if he just kept on sending in Owens and then Brown and then Luttig and then GOD only knows who, the SCOTUS would be short a justice ( perhaps 2 ) throughout the rest of his term.

So, now we have one or more vacancies and what happens should a damned Dem be elected president in '08?

Just some food for thought.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does that stand for?

Congressman Michael Forbes was the only Congressman as a Republican to vote for EVERY SINGLE article of impeachment drawn up by the House Judiciary committee against Clinton. I don't really remember what it was (whether it was a pet policy issue, or just an ego matter), but after Clinton was cleared by the Senate he switched parties, and turned 180 on the policies... He was unseated in the next primary...

It was the latter.

The reason he was he unseated in the subsequent election was because he switched parties, then proceeded to betray his former Republican allies.

Tom Delay ensured that he lost the Democratic primary to a hapless, slightly addled elderly woman-who was a lifelong registered Democrat, and an extreme liberal-who would proceed to be slaughtered in a general election by fireworks magnate Felix Grucci.

Unfortunately, he was a one-term congressman, who was unseated by an extremely radical professor (from Hofstra?) that supposedly used his family's business against him.

I honestly don't enough about the underlying dynamics of the race, since I live on the far Western edge of Long Island, i.e. Brooklyn.

My distant relatives in Nassau and Suffolk could probably tell you more about the reason for Grucci's loss, which I thought was pretty inexplicable at the time.

BTW, over half of the House Rep. Caucus ultimately voted for all four articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton.

My brother was a rabid young Republican in HS and early college. He is basically a socialist fifteen years later.

So your brother is in his 30's? I wish I could see into the future...but, I predict he will become more conservative as he ages, unless he's gay, or an artist of some sort. Those people don't age the same way the rest of us do.

i remember meeting felix grucci years ago and coming away with the impression that he was a rather rock solid conservative and a very sincere and nice person.
The classic example of never judge a person by the size of their wallet.

It's sad to see how much the GOP has atrophied under the "leadership" of Gov. Pataki and his cronies, like Sandy Treadwell.

Not to mention, the disastrous legacy bequeathed by the Nassau and Suffolk Co. GOP.
