Bush vows to oust 'every single' illegal
The Washington Times ^ | October 19, 2005 | Stephen Dinan and Bill Sammon

President Bush said yesterday that his goal is eventually to expel "every single" illegal alien from the United States as his administration pressed Congress to pass a guest-worker program.
Although conceding that the administration cannot immediately deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens who are here, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao told Congress that a temporary-worker program would give aliens an incentive to come out of hiding and let them work legally for six years before being forced to return home.

He also "vowed" to fix Social Security, lower health care costs, and lower taxes (again), among other "vows".

I'm not going to be holding my breath on this one either.

They say Bush doesn't read the polls........This is an example to the contrary.

I don't believe that Pres Bush will follow through on this. Someone should advise him to check out talk radio and Lou Dobbs program, where he talks about it every night out of total frustration. It's a mystery to me why the administration has allowed this to go on after 9/11. It's changed my opinion of Bush.

Isn't this the same guy who "vowed" to nominate conservative judges on the SC; who "vowed" to find WMDs in Iraq, and who "vowed" to fix and make equitable the US tax code?

I believe "vowed" is a word politicians now use to mean "I'll say whatever you think is politically expedient - the stupid public will buy into anyting!"

That's the nice thing about vowing. You don't actually have to do anything.

Ousting 'em is going cause an uproar (picture Elian Gonzales times eleven million). Try cutting down on illegals entering the country THEN start expelling the illegals already here. Concentrate on the ones committing crimes.
That way we get rid of the worst, first, and take steps to ensure they don't come back.

I'll believe it when I see it!

"eventually?"
hell he's had five friggin' years and we haven't seen "eventually" yet!

At least W has "said" he will deport 'em all...
so we'll just have to "wait & see."

"Congress that a temporary-worker program would give aliens an incentive to come out of hiding and let them work legally for six years before being forced to return home."

If everyone who knows where some are called the authorites, we wouldn't have to wait for them to come out of hiding. Hey, that's a good idea. Let's do it and see what happens.

Well, more than won't follow up on it, I don't think it's possible to follow up on such a statement and that is made even more impossible as long as protection of our boarders remain skimpier than Ashley Simpson's talent.

"To think that I truely believed at one time that the United States was Blessed and made Great, from the vast diversity of nationalities including MEXICAN that make it up."

Don't race-bait this issue into something it's not. Mexicans, Dominicans, El Salvadorans, Italians, Portuguese etc. become legal citizens of this country every day. They follow the legal immigration channels and wait their turn. The do not invade a sovereign country disregarding its laws in the process. The United States is a blessed nation because although not perfect, we are a nation of laws. So respect the laws of the country you aspire to become a citizen of or stay the hell out. If you come in as a criminal don't act shocked when you are treated as one.

"work legally for six years before being forced to return home."

Notice that the timelines for the successful implementation or enforcement of these programs, all come in to play in the Bush THIRD TERM.

Ugh. I see what you mean. :-(

What can we do to *truly* turn this president back to the side of the angels? I wonder if anyone is buying the loud noises coming from Chertoff and the President?

The silence from the left is deafening. Were this a real attempt to secure the borders, they'd be shrieking their hysterical noggins off.

Mr. President, Mr. Chertoff, Ms. Chao,

If you are intent on solving the nation's border woes, first - build a continuous linear border structure. A continuous 24 ft high wall of reinforced concrete topped with razor wire not only would help stop illegal human traffic, but assist in curtailing illegal drug and weapons smuggling. By containing border crossings to those designated areas, fewer resources would need be expended in the "wilderness" and more focus may be pointed upon those legal crossing points.

Mr. President, it's been repeated probably since time began for private property ownership - fences make for good neighbors. Our fences are broken and our "neighbors" are walking off with our resources. I believe you wouldn't accept neighbors helping themselves to your Crawford ranch, PLEASE help us protect OURS?

That's the nice thing about vowing. You don't actually have to do anything...

Does that include marriage vows? How about the "poverty, chastity, and obedience" vows?

How about "vowing" to "get your man"??

How about the solem vow to "go in quest for the Holy Grail"?

Lotsa kinda vows, huh?
