Bush Pushes for Guest Worker Plan

President Bush sought support Tuesday for his guest worker plan for foreigners, hoping to win over skeptical conservatives with a pledge to clamp down on illegal immigration — one of a growing number of issues causing friction between the White House and fellow Republicans.

"As we improve and expand our efforts to secure our borders, we must also recognize that that enforcement cannot work unless it is part of a larger comprehensive immigration reform program," Bush said. "If an employer has a job that no American is willing to take, we need to find a way to fill that demand by matching willing employers with willing workers from foreign countries on a temporary and legal basis."

Americans who pay taxes need to demand the government stop paying Americans for not doing those jobs Americans won't do.

End welfare, totally.

"If an employer has a job that no American is willing to take, we need to find a way to fill that demand by matching willing employers with willing workers from foreign countries on a temporary and legal basis."

Wrong.

If America indeed lacks the workpool to provide needed labor, its best corrected by raising the immigration quotas across the board and allowing into America people who want to become American citizens, learn to speak ENGLISH, and adopt to American culture - not a group of marginalized, exploited peasants whose sole concern is to send money back to foreign ratholes, force us to speak their language and adopt their culture, and who will owe no allegiance to America.

The "gueast worker" program sounds like a form of economic slavery which would create a permanent growing underclass of disgruntled, exploited subversives.

And since most of what we buy is made in China these days, I'd be really interested in what industries Mr. Bush feels need these peasants and why he is so concerned about them.

I agree. I've recently made friends with some Polish people who LOVE America and are having a hard time getting citizenship . They work VERY hard , speak English (study on their own ) and are real patriots .people like that we can use.

Immigration is a problem because of its volume, not because of its legality or illegality.

I agree with you that the volume is a problem, but the illegality is a problem also. It forces them into an underground economy where they are taken advantage of, don't pay taxes, use a lot of government services, etc.

I guess what I'm getting at is that a large volume of new immigrants is a problem as you have described. A large volume of illegal immigrants is a bigger problem.

The only solution I think will work to close the border, make the US much less attractive to illegals, make illegals much less attractive to employers, and deport the existing illegals. Only when these things have been substantially accomplished do we look at any increases in legal immigration.

I might be more effective as a lagniappe, for the Bush administration to show more interest in enforcing existing laws, particularly vis a vis employers, in order to demonstrate that any quid pro quo for what Bush wants, is attended by some real program to staunch the illegal flow that will be enforced. Putting laws on the books that are not enforced, is akin to not putting them on the books at all.

One other thing - any "marriage" certifications should automatically be voided if either party was/is in the US illegally.

"America is a country of opportunity populated by immigrants. Immigration creates opportunity and prosperity via necessity. The only true "Americans" live on reservations."

Yeah, that massive influx of European immigrants created a lot of opportunity and prosperity for the Native Americans. /sarcasm

We're the blacks of the Republican party- nowhere else to go. Rove and his ilk are much more worried about swing Hispanic voters who could go either way in elections.

Yes, and that’s the worst of it, isn’t it? That, we loyal US citizens and supporters are so discounted, along with our borders, that foreign nationals are of greater value.

My advice is: give up, because the world is run by the Man. And the Man likes cheap labor.

Yes, the man likes cheap labor. That’s been true since one man had power over another. Christians and Americans have shed their blood to be better than that. Too many of my many ancestors gave their lives to see this country endure.

Give up? Not an option.

You're right. Bush should grow a backbone and work to end welfare.

Weasel words from the dishonest little man we have in the White House.

This is such a great graphic that Prime Choice created. We should be emailing the link to his site www.sacredcowburgers.com to every conservative we know, encouraging them to print and use the "pesos". The GOP should receive nothing but these things until Bush and his fellow clowns come to their senses.

I'd love to see a story in the media about these donation-pesos. ( Have there been any stories yet PM?)

The question is - were we misled, were we just wrong, or has he changed?

Perhaps it's some of all three.

No stories of which I'm aware. That's probably because my web site is referenced as "hate speech" in a lot of liberal-sired web-based "content filters."

Funny how that works. Leftists sites that call for our President's assassination get off scot-free and my site gets slandered as a "hate site." Guh.

BTTT

Mine too, and they must be rolling over in their graves. This is invasion by a third world, failed country, without a shot being fired in our defense.

He has to clamp down on illegal immigration and prove a solution to the problem, including remedies and punishments and enforcements of our existing laws, much moreso new ones to come, BEFORE he can 'sell' his idea of "a guest worker program."

Otherwise, it's just whistling but it sure isn't Dixie.

"If an employer has a job that no American is willing to take, we need to find a way to fill that demand

Fill that demand by raising the salaries, not keeping them artifically deflated due to third world workers coming into this country illegally to do them. The best way to protect America, is to defend our borders, lower taxes, and protect American jobs. Why should we protect American jobs, becasue if Americans can't make a decent living then what exactly are we protecting in America? What are we fighting terror for when unpatriotic companies will just outsource your job if you are not willing to work for slave wages?
