Bill Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, said he expects indictments this week in the CIA leak case involving White House advisers Karl Rove and Scooter Libby.
Kristol said "the mood is bleak in the White House today, and said the environment surrounding the federal grand jury testimony is "pretty grim. Although the indictments may not ultimately result in anything substantive, Kristol said there is a pins-and-needles feel to the grand jury investigation into the leaking of a CIA agent's name to the media in 2003.
"The net has been cast wide, Kristol told Fox News Tuesday. "Lots of junior aides have testified. Its been a very comprehensive investigation by the prosecutor. I think there will be indictments and the mood is pretty bleak in the White House.
As for what this means for President Bush and the daily working of the White House, Kristol said it is too early to tell.
"The White House has to ask, How do we segregate this? This is a problem, but the legal system has to run its course.
"Meanwhile, Kristol said, "the president has to take the initiative on foreign policy and economic policy and sort of set this aside.
No he does that with Morton Kondracke . . . that way Fred always knows Morts talking points and creams him on the Foxnews Allstars.
Maybe he'll indict GWB. That way he can pardon himself and get on with business. ;o)
If I posted what I really felt about Krystal Ballless, I would be banned.
No wonder:
"Oh cripes, it's that miserable snot Bill Kristol bothering us on the phone again."
If the Fox babes can't cure him of that, then he's hopeless
RES. Its spreading. Call the CDC!
I haven't liked Kristol since the 2000 campaign and his love affair with McCain. Anyone supporting McCain is someone on my "do not trust" list and Kristol is right at the top.
Anyone inside the WH talking to Kristol will be looking for another job IMHO -- Kristol is trying to stay relevant and not doing a very good as he has alienated too many people.
I wouldn't take the Weekly Standard if they sent it to me for free now!
Or an alternate: You need a pump to get rid of the BS. ;o)
I do not know where you have been, but you have not been following Kristol's idocy for the last several years. You can count on one hand the number of times Kristol has backed GWB, and most of those times were when he was trying to get a job in the Bush Administration.
Or sillilied humored?
ANd Barnes has a twinkle of humor in his eyes, much like Brit Hume. Kristol's demeanor reminds me of Helen Thomas.
LOLOLOL Let's not call him a homo, let's call him a whore! Hilarious indeed!
Seriously, I can't respect a "conservative" who's shut up by Mara Liasson!
I agree on Barnes. What is his current take on what is happening re. the SP? Is he expressing anxiety or still viewing the thing as a ploy to attack the WH by disgruntled CIA-types - aided and abetted by the MSM and the Dems?
Ronald Reagan ran up deficits and accumulated an enormous bulk of the national debt during his storied terms. This was to defeat the Soviet Union.
GW Bush has run up deficits and debt because US GDP growth collapsed after 9/11 when airliners were not allowed to fly for about a week. And worse, this happened in perfect sync with the technobubble pop post Clinton.
Yet FR chooses to hate Bush for not cutting spending and forgets Reagan's equivalent.
Reagan nominated O'Connor and Kennedy to the USSC. GW Bush has nominated two unknowns. The two knowns by Reagan have been anything but staunch right wing advocates, but FR chooses to criticize Bush's picks as unknown. It is better to be unknown than known negative.
GW Bush made a trip to Iraq during the height of the shooting on Thanksgiving day, flying 17 hrs each way. He personally reached into a mass of Chilean wannabes and plucked his security guy away from difficulty.
This is a president who behaves a president should. And yet, FR listens to moral gnats like Bill Kristol who has accomplished nothing at all in his life.
Hard to fathom.
I think Kristol was hoping for a Kerry win. He did not lok too happy about it when it sunk in that Bush won, by a decent margin.
Rumsfeld has more manhood in his left elbow than Kristol's entire body.
Said hello, Fred. LOL.
But Nancy and Harry oughta be able to convince America that they are mainstream. ;o)
Oh he was. Along with Krauthammer and any other talking head that advocated invading Iraq. Articles from the Weakly Standard were posted as gospel supporting the arguments about WMDs, etc.
