Video sellers and distributors filed a federal lawsuit Monday in an attempt to zap a new California law that will prohibit selling or renting violent videos to people under 18 after the end of the year.
Videos, no less than books, movies, fine art and fine music, are entitled to First Amendment protection, the suit argues.
Similar laws elsewhere have uniformly been struck down as violations of freedom of speech, says the injunction request that was filed in San Jose federal court by the Video Software Dealers Association and Entertainment Software Association.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who signed the California bill in a surprise move a week and a half ago, is the lead defendant but was named only in his official capacity.

Why doesn't someone criminalize the parents who let their children watch this crap to begin with?
you ashould actually take a look at the text of the law....it's a jumbled mess witveague definitions, which sets it up for trouble.
