Back In the U.S.A.
Chuck Berry

Oh well, oh well
I feel so good today
We just touched ground
On an international runway
Jet propelled back home
From over the seas to the USA

New York, Los Angeles
Oh, how I yearned for you
Detroit, Chicago
Chattanooga, Baton Rouge
Let alone just to be at my home
Back in ole St. Lou

Did I miss the skyscrapers
Did I miss the long freeway
From the coast of California
To the shores of the Delaware Bay
You can bet your life I did
Til I got back to the USA

Looking hard for a drive-in
Searching for a corner cafe
Where hamburgers sizzle
On an open grill night and day
Yeah, and a juke-box jumping
With records like in the USA

Well, I'm so glad I'm living in the USA
Yes, I'm so glad I'm living in the USA
Anything you want
We got right here in the USA

When I was a little bitty boy
my grandmother bought me a cute little toy
Silver bells hangin' on a string
she told me it was my ding a ling

My ding a ling, my ding a ling
I want to play with my ding a ling
My ding a ling, my ding a ling
I want to play with my ding a ling

And then mother took me to Grammer School
But I stopped all in the vestibule
Every time that bell would ring
catched me playin' with my ding a ling

Once I was climbing the garden wall
I slipped and had a terrible fall
I fell so hard I heard bells ring
but held on to my ding a ling

Once I was swimming cross Turtle creek
many snappers all around my feet
Shure was hard swimming cross that thing
with both hands holdin' my ding a ling

This here song it ain't so sad
the cutest little song you ever had
those of you who will not sing
You must be playin' with your own ding a ling
My ding a ling Your ding a ling, your ding a ling
We saw you playin' with your ding a ling
My ding a ling everybody sing
I want to play with my ding a ling

Wasn't Chuck Berry sued when he had hidden cameras mounted in the bathroom in his house to film lady visitors using the restroom?

worked at a hotel a couple years ago and met him. spent the next couple days slapping the crap out of people who asked me "who's chuck berry?"
altho it got worse, my ex was talking to bob dylan at the front desk one time, no clue who he was, saw his musical tattoo and asked "hey, are you in a band?" this is also the girl who asked me, "hey, who's that really tall guy over there? i think his name is johnson." (yeah, "magic"). pointed to a group of guys and asked what was so special about them (beach boys).
*sigh* no culture.

Back around 1970, our college town was being saturated with rock concerts. Possibly because of this, only about 300 showed up for Chuck's show. This in an auditorium that could hold over 7,000.

Instead of blowing the gig off, Chuck had everyone come down in front of the stage and he put on one hell of a show. It was the most dynamic concert I ever attended!

Saw him in concert in Sacramento back in 1958.
On the same bill with Little Richard, and Fat's Domino. A wild, wild night indeed.

I'll bet Chuck has been seventy nine for at least three years.

I saw Chuck Berry in the mid '70's. He opened for Frank Zappa in Chicago's Auditorium Theater. Amazing night of music that night.

"Promised Land" was another great Chuck Berry song that wasn't mentioned here. There are so many. The seminal rock and roll performer. I last saw him perform in the late 90s at the Greek Theater in LA; unfortunately he did mail in the performance that night. But I also saw him in the sixties giving it his all, and what a memorable time it was. You could see that Pierre did truly love the Madamoiselle bump.
