A new study from Simmons on the media consumption of the gay and lesbian population suggests that many preconceived notions about this demographic are incorrect, writes Media Life. While it's true that gays favor premium cable channels, consistent with stereotypes, they are also apparently big fans of Comedy Central's South Park, for example.
The media usage of this demographic goes beyond Bravo, which airs Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (viewed by 41 percent of the gay population in the last month, compared to 7 percent of overall population). Gay men are most likely to watch the following channels (in descending order): Comedy Central, Discovery, Spike TV, A&E, Bravo, Sci Fi, CNN, Lifetime, Fox News, and HGTV.
Gay women are most likely to watch HBO, A&E, USA, ESPN, Discovery, Lifetime, Showtime, Bravo, TNT, and Starz.
However, MTV Networks' ad-supported network targeting gay men and women, with 18 million subscribers, was not included in the study. The network launched June 30.
In specific shows, South Park was watched by about 25 percent of gay men and lesbians in the last four weeks. Other popular shows include Law & Order: SVU, Lifetime's Golden Girls, and Spike TV's Real TV.
Gay men and women are also more likely to subscribe to cable and satellite TV than the average person, at 91 percent versus 80 percent of the total population.
You should watch more of it, its not that simple.
OMG!!!! that is the funniest thing I've ever seen!!!!!!
First of all, there are a lot of people not prepared to accept humor that is as bawdy as South Park. I understand that. I wouldn't have my grandmother watch it, though I think my mom would have liked a few carefully chosen episodes.
There is no real right or wrong in art, and you can't really be told to love anything that doesn't speak to you.
That said, let me comment on this: I watched shit park only once. They were making fun of special ed children. Making them say "duh" and act stupid. How F***ING disgusting and cowardly is that!
Was it by any chance the Special Olympics episode? Where Cartman pretends to be 'retarded' thinking he could win all the prizes? That's the only show I can think of where characters deliberately act stupid.
The punch line was that when the race started, they kicked his butt. He lost. "Fair and square". While he cheated, they worked their butts off training.
And that's kindof the point of South Park. They point out when we're funny, no sacred cows, just a particularly poignant point of view. And when they do that... When they have lovable characters that are disabled and are ~not~ shielded from either public view or prevented from being funny, they are treating those people with respect, and not pity.
...well...DUH!
yep...Fox News....Brian Kilmeade and HIS MAN BAG....
Now it The Daily Show. Pucker up Jonnie!
But your answer was a lot more simple than mine :~D
LOGO is the new channel on Comcast for the gay community.
I have no idea. I rarely watched that show.
Interesting. Unfortunately you did not watch the entire episode. If you had, the young man that did make fun of the special ed kids was ridiculed at the end and the children were all taught a lesson about steroids and cheating. Considering how happy go lucky the Republican party has been about having useless Congressional hearings on issues that don't even concern them, namely steroids, I'm suprised more Republicans didn't like that episode
South Park presents, rather rudely at times I'll admit, a conservative point of view that has long left the Republican party. That government is not and never will be our friend or helper. That we should want to do without government. Of course as fast as Bush is putting people on the dole with his 'conservative' programs accompanied by Republican cheerleading, I'm suprised there are any of us left.
There have been a few episodes I found offensive. I thought the movie was over the top. But the ones that are over the top to me are few and far between.
FWIW.
That is a very clever twist....to make The Shining into a "feel good happy story".....hilarious.
TIMMY!
Strange how this poster is offended by the word "Duh" and cartoon characters acting stupid....but has no problem typing in curse words in an open forum. What a retard.
Thats why I usually try to watch it.
Kinda like Simpsons humor.
Yikes! Does thsi mean I have to give up on South Park and MXC(my other guilty pleasure)?
You think watching the same program like do will make you gay or something?
I am in love with Guy Ledouche.
sarcasm tag obviously needed.
