I think I love you.
I was listening to some post game interviews here in St. Louis and Larry Walker mentioned something about seeing some of the Astro players "dancing" in the dugout in the ninth inning. Now if Walker could see that I am sure other Cardinal players could see that as well.
These kinds of things can really turn a defeated team into a ticked off team, and make things happen.
I am wondering if this is/was mentioned down there in Houston in their post game reports.
I was hoping for the one win in Houston to get this series back to St. Louis, and that happened fortunately. Momentum is so huge in post season play. Winning this game the way the Cardinals did was exactly what they needed. I would have prefered this over a blow out win for sure.
We will see how the Cards do now that it comes back to St. Louis. The crowd at Busch will be unhinged, you can count on that.
It will be a tough fight, for both teams. I still think this series is a toss up, and have thought that from the very start. The Astros are a good ballclub, and felt they were the team the Cards feared the most, and deservedly so.
I wish I could listen in to the sports shows down there. That would be interesting to hear what they are saying.

Never mind the local sports shows. As you well know, they are for bandwagon fans only. They will invariably be griping with little to no context. They should not represent true Astros fans. I have not been listening anyway. I've been posting here and at other sites, slowly accepting what happened and mentally preparing for an agonizing wait til Wednesday.
I would hope that no one on the Astros celebrated prematurely. But that very well may have been the case. My hat's off to the Cardinals--they kept their cool and executed. They extended the series with a superb come-from-behind win. What else can you say? Good luck in Game 6--I think this year's NLCS is even better than last years.

Its also nice to know that Ole Busch stadium got a few extra days from the wrecking ball. Its kind of an added bonus to all of this.
As a Cardinals fan who has to strain to recall the lineup for our last World Series win in 1982, I sympathize with our fellow Central Divisionites down south. I had to chuckle, though, when watching the reply of the top of the 9th and seeing Fox give the Player of the Game to Lance Berkman.

You're so right. Lost in the Cardinals celebration was the fine relief work done by Izzy. It's really tough for a closer to come in trailing by 2 runs in the 8th inning and shut the opponent down -- especially in that cracker box.
Maybe, but my Aardvark dropped nukes, and didn't see much ant action.
This reminds me a lot of the 1986 ALCS. Boston was down three games to one at Anaheim and trailed 5-2 in the 9th. Two dramatic home runs helped the Sox rally to win that game and forced the series back to Boston where the Sox won the final two games.
The rule is simple. Make their inferior players beat you. It crosses into every sport. It's always solid strategy. You don't give Michael Jordan the chance to drain a fall-away jumper to beat you, even if you have to triple team him. Make someone who isn't used to being clutch come up big in the clutch. This loss by the Astros was really unnecessary. They almost don't deserve to beat the Cards in Game 6 or 7. Time after time teams forget this simple rule. I guess it's arrogance by the players who have the job of stopping the other team's best player. Schilling had the chance in a game on July 21st against the White Sox to make Juan Uribe beat him (he ended up hitting a ground out to Renteria to end the inning), who was hitting just .233 at the time, by walking Crede who had had a great AB against him, but he gave Crede a pitch to hit, which ended up as an RBI double that tied the game. I predicted that before it happened, talking to my TV. Schill didn't listen and got the blown save and the vulture win off the 9th inning Manny homer.

There was some talk about the Astro's mini celebration after game 4 on Sunday by Cards players. I think some of the Cards players and fans thought the Stros were celebrating just a little too much without the 4th win.
One thing you will notice on Tony's team is dicipline and hard play. He wouldn't let them celebrate the Division clinch until the magic number was actually zero, even though they clinched earlier with the head to head tie breaker.
BTW..off-topic question on the ALCS game...If, instead of rolling the ball to the mound, which allowed AJP to run to first, if the Angels catcher had tossed the ball into the stands, and the fans held it, then the runner could have gone all the way home...that's how I read the rule..is that correct?..Man could you imagine that pic...a fan holding the ball, laughing at the A's player.which AJP walks around the bases...Or, there could have been a CWS gand next to him, who punched the guy in the mouth, grabbed the ball, and threw it back onto the field..
