That's an argument I have not seen anybody else make... And I think he has a point although I still support the President.

And your choise is? See, they've got it all calculated. Just as Jesse Jackson in reality doesn't want his issues resolved, neither do certain key republicans, a not the usual suspects. If they get the job done, then why would we need them.

Mainly because they will fight our enemies. It is unfortunate that now they have to watch their backs to keep "conservatives" knives out of them.

Gary is right. Some of us (including myself) really have thrown in the towel for now. Novak had it right: Is this what we fought for? Harriet Miers?!?! Not me. If they persist with her, this gentleman is going to put his election year efforts into golf in 2006 and 2008. Had I (and many of us) known we would get Harriet Miers nominated, John Kerry would be President right now - plain and simple. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (his title in 2007) is going to be a powerful man in about 15 months. But we need a majority! For....um....you know....stuff......

Nothing could provide any "assurances that there won’t be another David Souter next time". The next time depends on too many things - both "known unknowns" and "unknown unknowns". And "if Miers turns out to be a pleasant surprise" quite a lot of people would have a rotten egg on their faces.

I used to listen to Gary Bauer, but years ago finally figured out he was just a whiner.

He hasn't changed.

When I go to the horse races, I try to pick the ones with the best chance of winning based on their prior track records. I don't gamble on an unproven horse. Nothing is assured when it comes to judges, but some candidates are more assuring than others.

I do not go to horse races at all. And I find it rather amusing that many people are as apoplectic as if GWB nominated hillary. He hasn't.
