But it's mostly a story about new things and where they come from, about which there are a few popular misconceptions.

Stop and look at Apple for a second, since it's an odd company. It has been around long enough and has a high enough profile that it's easy to forget that. While most high-tech firms focus on one or two sectors, Apple...

When the iPod turns into a cellphone, I may consider the purchase. (Yes, I say "when"... I don't believe it's an "if".)

Given this was Time Magazine, I thought for sure this was an article on liberal hatchman "Johnny Apple" and how he managed to rise, shine, then mangle and slant the news each day.

What crap. Cover boy Steve Jobs and Apple get more free publicity from an adoring liberal press. What a shock

Jon Rubinstein, head of the iPod Division, announced his retirement last week after the new video iPod was trotted out. He was dead set against combined electronic devices, and wanted the iPod to stay strictly music oriented. I think Apple is trying to do to portable electronics what Micro$oft did to personal computing.

Well...try the MotoROKR with iTunes, introduced a few months ago by Motorola and Apple.

So, does Time have any articles in this issue about Louis Freeh and his shocking allegations about the mishandling of national security under Bill Clinton? Or are they too busy hyping leftist cult heroes to report on real news?

Yeah, I bet all those people who downloaded itunes 5.0 to find their ipods, routers, speakers, etc ruined are loving Apple right now. 5.0 ruined my comp to the point it had to be returned (it was only 1 month old, and we got it from Costco). Over at the Apple ipod boards it looks like 6.0 is having problems too

While I think Apple's computers are great, these little music players are far from anything exciting. I'd recommend a Palm Treo with phone/web browser/terminal server/live TV/streaming audio/quicken/etc in addition to the music/video capability which seems to be about all these ipods have to offer.

After Apple put that stupid Emmenim commercial on, forcing me to listen to that noise whilst trying to watch a ballgame, I'll never by an Apple product.
