Sex offender sentenced (outrageous case in Virginia)
Richmond Times-Dispatch ^ | 10/15/05 | PAIGE AKIN

A repeat sexual offender who struck again just four months after being released from confinement, was sentenced yesterday to serve 20 years for his most recent offense, this time against a 12-year-old girl.

Lorenzo Townes, 49, pleaded guilty to forcible sodomy, abduction with intent to defile and breaking and entering in the July 11 incident. He admitted to police that he crept into the girl's home, threw her onto a bed and sexually assaulted her.

...

Snukals sentenced him to 50 years in prison for each charge, but suspended 30 years of the sodomy sentence, 45 years of the abduction sentence and 48 years of the breaking and entering sentence. He will serve the sentences concurrently, and will be on supervised probation for the rest of his life after he's released.

Townes, a registered sex offender, was first found guilty of a sex crime in 1973. He was convicted in Campbell County of raping a 10-year-old girl and sentenced to 18 years in prison.

....

While in prison, he attacked two female prison employees. In 1974, he was convicted of attempting to rape a female nurse. Then, in 1988, he was convicted of abduction with intent to inflict bodily injury on a state penitentiary worker. He had grabbed the worker by the throat and beat her face, breaking her jaw, according to court records.

In 2003, Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore's office classified Townes and 40 other Virginians as violent sexual predators. Under a new law, Townes was civilly committed urt to the Department of Mental Health facility for rehabilitation.

Townes appealed the court's decision, and in March, the Virginia Supreme Court ordered him released because his case didn't meet the law's requirement that he be in prison serving time for a sexual crime at the time of his commitment.

It took this monster only four months after being released on a technicality by the Virginia Supreme Court to brutalize a 12 year old girl. Swell. Now comes another judge who suspends most of his sentence; he could live to be a free man. Heartbreaking for this girl and her family. Actually, for all of us that people like this are given such liberty to re-offend.

The judge had the means at his disposal to put this man away until he died, but obviously he thought this animal's rights were more important than the ruined life of a girl. Why didn't women's lib accomplish something more important than sexual license and the destruction of the family? This judge should be impeached.

Exactly. When judges are so lenient towards an obvious scumbag like this (and a danger to society) makes me wonder if the judge might have the same proclivities as the offender.

He will be 76 years old when he gets out, if not sooner, and will still be a threat no matter if they track him or not.

This judge's picture should be featured on O'Reilly. Scum like this on the bench are responsible for scum like this defendant getting loose.

If justice had been done in the first place, this animal would have been hanged for that crime and he wouldn't have been around to attack the next 5 people.

The Supreme Court has ruled that no one may be executed, who has not committed murder.

You may or may not disagree with that decision, but for now it's the law.

A good jacketed hollow point 185 grain bullet costs about 95 cents each.
