Iraqi Victory, American Achievement: The October 15 Referendum
World Defense Review ^ | October 17, 2005 | Walid Phares

Posted on 10/17/2005 6:50:13 AM PDT by SuzyQ2

In the middle of the War on Terror, October 15 was a great achievement of the United States, but above all an Iraqi victory. If we divide the number of US soldiers who died in the conflict till October 15, we'd realize that for each fallen hero, 4,500 Iraqi voters were given the right to vote against Terror. In the global conflict with Jihadism, U.S. efforts and sacrifices are triggering greater resources against the empire projected by Ayman Thawahiri and Usama Bin Laden.

This is why our soldiers fight and this is why we will win.

This is the middle of the end for the terrorists in Iraq.

Now the people must be led to believe that another group with military and police power is in charge and not to be removed.

Once they accept that, the terrorists are done.

The new government must make their military one of their highest priorities.

This is why our soldiers gave their lives.

May those who gave the ultimate gift rest in peace, with the knowledge that the gift they gave is the gift of life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and hope to fellow human beings.

Great article written by Dr.Walid Phares who is one of the best analysts in Middle Eastern affairs, and he is very much pro-American unlike most analysts from Middle Eastern decent. Another great guy is Dr. Fouad Ajami.

Damn, GW got rid of Saddam, helped the Iraqis form a government and hold elections and write a constitution. All those things the liberals around the world and the UN said he couldn't do. GW has been getting the blame for everything that has happened in the last 8 years, just thought it was fair to give him some credit too.

The question is, how will the libs take credit for this once this is all over. We all know it will happen...just wondering how. Will it be that John Kerry had the insightful idea of killing the bad guys, training local police, and helping them hold elections, therefore the dems clearly were in charge of this effort?

If Clinton could pull our economy out of the 70's dulldrums and oversee the fall of the USSR, bringing world peace and happiness... (sarcasm off)

Just another example of how American illiberals constantly TALK about things while actually DOING nothing.

That was a powerful article. No one can ever overestimate the impact the loss of a loved one in the military has on family and friends. Likewise, no one can ever overestimate the impact on freedom that their sacrifice has had.

Exactly.

Everything the anti-Bush folks said wasn't being done and couldnt be done has been done.

Iraq is now a liberated country, in the true sense. It has a democratic destiny, delivered by the sweat and blood of patriotic Americans and coalition partners' soldiers and
the effort and courage of patriotic Iraqis who are building the new Iraq.

Dear Freema,(Proud Marine Mom)

By being the mother of a United States Marine, I hold you in the highest regard, and am deeply indebted, and thankfull for your son's service and your personal sacrifice.

Our soldiers and sailors are in the fight for our way of life in Iraq, and Afgahanistan. They could just as well be fighting this war on our own shores, in our cities or in our countryside. The outcome of this war will shape the future of our children and grandchildren. If we stay the course and win, democracy will breed a free and peaceful Iraq and Afghanistan, and will spread to other coutries in the region. The terrorists will suffer the same fate as all other evil entities who pushed our nobel and peaceful country to the edge. In 50 years history will rank this conflict as important if not more so than any other war we have faced. If we withdraw, we lose. The terrorists, regain power over there, and their insatiable appetite for the blood of decent, innocent people will spawn new attacks over here, and around the world. Once again, the blood of United States soldiers, airmen, and sailors is being spilled to save the world from evil as it has been for the last 100 years. And the rest of the world still doesn't get it.

Thank you, hiramknight.

Those words go a long way, especially today- as I tomorrow is the anniversary of his birth. 9 pounds on the dot at precisely high noon and no so much as an aspirin with an outside observer-a doctor from another country who wanted to see an American woman give birth. It was a day with an awful lot of joy and he has been nothing but joy for all these years. We have been privilged to love him...a quiet, gentle and loving soul with an incredible sense of humor and a backbone of steel.

Thank you.

If we stay the course and win...

You're right on the mark (with your comment in its entirety). The condition of "if we stay the course" must be a centerpiece and deciding point of the 2008 Presidential election. We must elect a successor who will champion the follow-through.

I believe a guest on Bill Bennett's show this morning said that the other countries in the middle east are jealous of the freedom that the Iraqi's have, even in the middle of a war. It is this (being jealous) that will cause a great movement in the Middle East towards democracy.

Iraq is leading by example.

Our military is also leading by example. Every soldier who sacrificed is responsible for this great day.

IMHO, George W. Bush has always believed that would happen-not a jealousy, but that they would fall in love with freedom...that love would conquer hate and fear.
