Report: Nazi Doctor Who Killed Hundreds Found
KSAT ^ | October 15, 2005

JERUSALEM -- A Nazi war criminal known as "Dr. Death" for sadistic experiments that killed hundreds of prisoners during World War II has been tracked down to Spain, an Israeli newspaper's Web site said Saturday. Spanish police said they had not yet found the man.

The German weekly Der Spiegel said Spanish investigators believe the 91-year-old suspect, Aribert Heim, has been in Spain recently.

Police said they had not found Heim during searches after receiving indications that he was living in the northeastern province of Girona.

"We haven't detained anyone with that name," said Joan Lopez, a police spokesman in Girona. "All we know is that he may have been in the area of Palafrugell recently."

Heim has been a fugitive since he was charged by German authorities in 1962 with killing hundreds of concentration inmates in Germany and Austria with lethal injections. He is thought to have evaded capture in Germany, Argentina, Denmark, Brazil and Spain.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz said Heim would be arrested soon by Spanish police.

Its Web site quoted a spokesman for the Nazi watchdog Simon Wiesenthal Center, Stephen Clem, as saying the center had evidence that Heim is still alive and has amassed more than $2 million in a Berlin bank.

A call to the center's Israeli branch requesting comment was not immediately returned.

Der Spiegel said Spanish investigators think a relative of Heim transferred about $363,000 to an acquaintance in Spain over the past five years and are looking into the possibility that at least some of it may have been used to support Heim.

The magazine said Spain was suspected as Heim's possible hiding place as long ago as the mid-1980s and there had been increasing indications in recent weeks that he might have until recently lived somewhere near Denia on the Mediterranean coast.

During the war, Heim earned the nickname of "Dr. Death" for experimenting on inmates at the Buchanwald and Mauthausen camps. The research included performing surgery without anesthesia and injecting prisoners with gasoline, poison and lethal drugs to see how much their bodies could take before dying, Haaretz said.

Although Heim never completed medical training after studying at the University of Vienna, after the war he worked as a doctor in southern Germany until he was indicted. German authorities have offered a $159,000 reward for his arrest and the Wiesenthal Center $12,200.

Maybe it's time to forgive and let the rest of the Nazi regime just die away on their own.

I don't think so! Every Nazi war criminal needs to be brought to justice and put to death, post haste...... I had several relatives who would also be 90+ now, but they have been dead since the 1940's, thanks to hunan scum like this. Besides, maybe a message might be sent to today's terrorists that their day is coming????

No. I don't care if he is 91, or 101, or as old as Methuselah. This man should be the guest of honor at a necktie party. I don't care if he has to be carried to the gallows on a stretcher.

Why would they be saddened? I've never paid them attention so I really don't know.

These guys have had lives way too long, but at least they've been hunted the entire time. That's the only point of consolation other than finding them; they know they've had the tables turned on them and their once victims are now the hunters.

Liberty Post is deeply saddened, I'm sure. So is the IHR.

They have a couple of Nazi sympathizers who post over there. Vast Right-Wing Conspirator is one of them. They kicked an outright neo-Nazi who was using the handle Erwachen. I busted him on that one, challenged him to deny that he'd taken the username directly from a Nazi SA banner. (They had the slogan Deutschland Erwache!, "Germany awake!") He admitted it. We had a few crisp exchanges, I bozo'd his ass, and eventually he became just a wisp of smoke after enough people complained to the site owner about him.

MY MILs cousin died as a result of these medical experiments.
I don't care how much he's worth monetarily..
I wouldn't touch that money..I'd starve first.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your relatives.

Unfortunately at this point when we hunt down someone in their 90's who hasn't committed an atrocity for 60+ years it's time to move on.

I understand that their are many who are still extremely bitter at the Nazi's. And if Hitler was alive today, he would love the fact that 60 years later so many jews are still burning with bitterness.

Interestingly, I just recently heard a great definition: Bitterness is when you drink the poison intended for your enemy.

In other words those who carry this bitterness with them too long will only have the bitterness ruin their own lives.

It's foul to think he is still alive and among us. May God bless those who suffered so terribly.

I am now convinced that those admonitions, continually repeated by generations of armchair philosophers, are nothing more than a social conditioning mechanism contrived to convince us to "Move On". I think the objective is to allow those who are made uncomfortable by evil to escape confronting it.

Where is the evidence that harboring ill-will toward evil people is somehow damaging? We are constantly admonished - without justification, and without a background of support - that "hate" is "self-destructive". My observation is that "Hate" bothers liberals and whiners and other microbes *a lot*, and they've hashed up this pious intonation of "hate destroys the hater" (which like all their other mantras is repeated, sheep-like, without rational derivation) in order to try to avoid confronting evil.

What is bitter about a desire to see justice being served? Who cares how old he is? Let him be killed for his crimes against humanity.

Useless.

However, if they bother to investigate whoever was complicit in his escape, and whoever while aware of his crimes knowingly assisted him in living to a ripe old age, and then hang *them*... then, maybe, I'll be impressed.

I respectfully disagree. "Moving on" has nothing to do with it. Finding a war criminal and bringing them to justice is not only a reafirmaton of the rule of law, but a reminder that there are some crimes against humanity to which the application of some arbitrary form of statute of limitations would be an insult to both the living and the deceased.

I agree with your comments for the tortured victims of this savage animal. Nazi beasts like this one are never too old for reciprocity.

Proud papa, I regret I was born to late to kill nazis. Would have been more satisfying than the Viet Cong. I would pull the lever and smile if I had the chance for every remaining nazi no matter how old or even if senile.

I understand your point of view...
Now understand mine..
She was murdered, cruelly used for experimetation..
Unless you have had a relative die at the hands of a monster...you really shouldn't say such things.
This "laissez-faire" attitude is more dangerous than you know.
Anyone who does something like this should be brought to task, regardless of how much time has elapsed..
Else..
Evil gets rewarded and good goes wanting..
He has had the luxury of wealth and old age..
Now he should die in peace too?
His victims were buried en masse..brutally murdered..
I'm appalled at you.

I agree!

I too have a personal vested interest in capturing these scumbags. I would like to see whoever protected him outed too! Are there ways they can prosecute those who harbored Nazis?

Yeah, I agree too. But when are they going to go after those people that ran the gulags and caused about 26 million deaths. Why has there been no activity? What are the Russian people, chopped liver?
