I stand corrected by your superior information.

WhatI meant was "why does it take a wierdo to draw attention to this condition?".

I think this event has drawn some attention to some neighborhoods "in transition" - that I haven't really thought about. Some tough demographics at work. Couple this with aging boomer population who cannot escape conditions. Not a good combination.

You made a very good point here, worth repeating, especially the aging population who can not 'escape'. Very difficult and to be sure yesterday must have been like hell on earth for them. I stayed over in that neighborhood several times some years ago and it was tense (as in not a very secure feeling) at that time.
