This is kind of hysterical. What most people miss is the obvious: many of the so-called middle class have sunk below the welfare lifestyle. So, they start screaming, pushing welfare down, so we can be above welfare recipients again. What they should be doing is looking for a way to pull themselves up.
Yep. On a related note my lower middle class neighbors (think Ed Norton/Tony Manero) in Bay Ridge would constantly whine about how several immigrant groups (Chinese, Arabic, Russian, South American) etc. drove better cars and were able to buy houses while they were stuck in their pre-war walkups with no car. Their explanation was that "immigrants don't get taxed and get money from the government."
