I was at the airshow in Salinas, Ca a few weeks back. They had two Hornets there. They took them right up to the sound barrier. You could see the cone form around the aircraft. It was the coolest thing I have every seen.

The best sound was the F-15 flying over with the afterburners on.

I get chills thinking about that. I was in an ADA missle unit back in the Army days. We had Tomcats from Whidbey Island, when they were still there, go against us once in a while for training. They'd treat us to some high speed flyovers after we "shot them down." Just incredible.
