European satellite CryoSat was ruined with Ukrainian electronics

The Reason of failure of a booster rocket "Roar" with European scientific satellite CryoSat became sofware failure in the equipment of bosster block management " Breeze-km ", "Businessman" informs. This equipment has been developed on Kharkov joint-stock company "HARTRON".

"Roar" has been created on the basis of two-level ballistic missiles RS-18 removed from arm forces (on NATO classification - SS-19). It consists of three steps - first two represent the block of accelerators of strategic rocket RS-18 (on NATO classification - SS-19), as the third step is "Breeze-km".

Failure has occured on October, 8th on the sixth minute of flight. After the second step has fulfilled, it was not separated from the booster block - the third step. As a result CryoSat together with parts of a rocket has felt in Arctic ocean.

During investigation, two versions - failure in the software of booster block " Breeze-km " and malfunction of a control system of the second missile stage were considered. "Breeze-km" has been created in KB "Salute" which is a part of Hrunichev Space Center, however the control system for "Breeze-km" has been developed by Kharkov joint-stock company "HARTRON"(Kharkov, Ukraine).

The Commission investigated incident and has established that actions of launching crew of space troops and groups of civil experts of the Hrunichev Center, in common carried out preparation of "Roar" for start-up, could not become the reason of failure.

If the operator's manual for Cryosat was anything like this report, it's no wonder that it failed.

I've been having problems with the Ukrainian "walkman/CD player" I bought at a flea market in Kiev last year. Never trust east block electronics.
