Your sentiments are shared by millions. What the Miers defenders fail to realize, is that even if they're right they lose. They just don't get it. You defeat and humiliate the Miers opponents, you defeat yourself. It's a complete mystery to me, how any conservative would think Miers (who no one even really knows) is worth fracturing the coalition, sowing animosity in the ranks and alienating millions of your strongest supporters...all this for the possibility she might be alright. My God, if you're going to go to war with the base, make it over someone who has earned the reason for the loss and sacrifice. Not somebody who Drudge has to flash an alert that they voted for Reagan in '84.

Tone deaf, denial, pride and arrogance are all in play, I think.

Well put, I don't understand it either.

Well stated. You are so right.

It would seem also that friends like Miers, are more important than the hundreds and thousands of nameless and faceless people throughout the country, who sacrificed time and money to help achieve victory for the President, the Party and the Conservative Cause. He has blown what should be a grand, victorious moment in history for us all.

It is frankly stunning. I encountered three Liberals I know today, and they are relieved and even gleeful over the Miers nomination. One liberal college professor I am acquainted with, couldn't be happier. This is his happiest moment in all five years of the Bush Presidency. It should be the best moment thus far for all conservatives, NOT Liberals. It isn't.
