If you are having wine with a meal or serving to guests, then of course it must come from a bottle.
However, I find that when you are simply having just one glass of wine every night for health reasons, the box becomes more attractive. The wine tends to stay fresher in the collapsible bag and is not exposed to standing air, the way it is in a partially opened bottle.
That said, I don't usually buy wine in a box, but every now and then my wife picks some up on sale and I notice how convenient it is when I want to have a small glass but don't care to crack open a good bottle.

Is it possible that the original 10 people that like it in a box are just drinking more?

yup. it was college. the illusion of class was all we needed.
After retiring I attended St. Leo Collage at Fort Eustis, Virginia. Being it was a branch campus on a military post it did not have a library so I used the nearby William and Mary library. My attire was generally jeans and sweater, and I had long hair in a ponytail and a fairly long beard.
I used that library for three years before I discovered that students were supposed to pay for copies and were not authorized help from the assistants in pulling material from the stacks. I would go in, a pretty little coed would ask if she could help and I would give her a list of what I needed. Another one would give me a cup of coffee. In a short time the first girl would come to me with all the references I needed copied and collated.
I found out after graduating that they all thought I was a professor.

I'm sure that people who buy wine in "boxes" don't mind drinking it from paper cups. I'm surprised by the article. I haven't seen wine in boxes in several years. I thought that they had quit selling it that way.

I like wine cold ... and we have stuff like food and milk and medicines in the refrigerator, which usually means only a small bottle of wine will fit. If necessary, I leave the bottle on the counter, and put a glass in the freezer until it's cold.

I buy a lot of wine by the box - boxes of 12 bottles, that is.

Thanks for the names. I cannot(in good conscience and hoping to funtion the next day)finish a bottle by myself on a work night. A glass is fine for me for an unwind and I would serve my bottled favorites for guests or special occasions.

Boxes to not do well in the frig, they tend to fall apart, wine is fine since it is in a plastic bag, but a rotting box is a drag to look at. Take the bag out of the box is my recommentation.

A box of wine in our refrigerator would be empty before the cardboard began to suffer. Bottles of beer, on the other hand, remain from one move to the next.

I found a little spray bottle of nitrogen that I experiemented with "purging" partial bottles before putting back on shelf. I had been using the little
syringe openers until I realized they use R-134A refrigerant! I think the little vacuum preservers are a bad idea too because the pressure that the wine has been under all this time is suddenly different and who knows what kind of goody aroma/vapor is yanked out of solution due to that (yes I think you can taste things like that, but I'm no wine snot.)
Ideally would be a disposable mylar wine-bag that could be used to save a partial bottle and also be able to purge all of the air. Or maybe a mylar balloon that could be inserted into a partially empty bottle that would purge the air from a bottle for storage.
