A member of the House of Representatives, Ron Paul, who some call “the most courageous man in Congress,” appeared on alternative newscaster Alex Jones' radio show to make a series of stinging charges about the Bush administration. Paul represents the 14th Congressional district of Texas. He also serves on the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, and the International Relations committee. He is know for his principled stand regarding the American Constitution – and for refusing to vote for legislation that he believes goes against the Founding Father’s intentions. Paul is also an FMNN commentator.
He is said to have made the following statements:
-Upcoming indictments of Bush administration officials will be far more damaging than most have expected.
-The Bush administration is attempting an end run around the Constitution by creating a militarized police state to take effect in the event of an avian flu pandemic – one that would include gun confiscation and ultimately martial law.
-The administration’s aggressive posture toward Iran, Syria, North Korea and China is “delusional.”
Paul, who is a medical doctor, went on record as stating that the bird flu threat was fearmongering. He is quoted as saying, "I believe it is the president hyping this and Rumsfeld, but it has to be in combination with the people being fearful enough that they will accept the man on the white horse. My first reaction going from my political and medical background is that it's way overly hyped and to think that they have gone this far with it, without a single case in the whole country and they're willing to change the law and turn it into a military state? This worries me as well. The gun confiscation part is probably the worst problem. I hope that the current plan is only a short term plan (until they develop a better plan that doesn't involve total military control). While I tend to agree with the Bush administration assertion that centralization of command and control makes sense for an avian flu pandemic, and quarantines may be required, I certainly don't agree with instituting federal martial law unless individual cities or states are incompetent. But perhaps I have underestimated that chaos that bird flu might cause. Currently, from bird to human transmission, the mortality rate is about 50%. I can imagine that an uninfected person in a quarantined town might want to fight to get out even if it's not for the better good.

What is delusional about our posture is that we are 'talking' aggressively. We need to back up our words with actions. Enough with referring it to the UNSC and restarting 3-way and 6-way talks. It's silly. When they hear us say "there will be serious consequences", they yawn.
I'm starting to worry about this site. The posts here look like the character slaying, name calling approach to dealing with issues, used by the Democrats to protect their people (at any cost). I'd like to hope that Republicans and the people posting on this site don't take on the characteristics of those we oppose.
To me our purpose as Constitution Americans should be to protect our form of Government not our political party. These are very dangerous times, times in which laws _are_ being created that belie organic laws. We support some of them because of the war on terror. Let's not give everything our Founding Fathers fought for away without careful consideration of the consequences. Our limited National Government is acting as if there are no limits, and nearly everyone here thrashes those who counsel about the dangers.
There is nothing so new about the war on terror that it requires turning our Constitutional Republic upside down. Further, those that can look at an upside down Constitutional Republic and actually think it is right side up... what can I say? The greatest war that was ever fought was WWII and we managed to survive it without a police state.
Perhaps some think that the America of our fore fathers past cannot mutate into a tyrannical, oppressive land where government does whatever it wants, in the image of Nazi Germany. They see no problem moving one step after the other in that direction while still claiming to be Constitution Americans. I beg of you to stay the course of law and limited government. Your fore fathers and the millions of soldiers who have died for this country beg of you not to give it away. I can assure you that they did not die for an America turned upside down, but rather to keep it upright.

Add in the recent Tony Blair idea to remove the presumption of innocence in the UK and I think anyone who is not worried is either delusional or simply blind.

Exactly, what is delusional about talk without any action! We started out dealing with things, not allowing nations to just talk, talk until they complete their weapons of terror, talk until they wear the United States resolve down, talk until the UN can send them more money to fund their flags screaming for our blood. Return to action, especially when those that what to talk are _obvoiusly_ just buying time.
I'm thinking more & more that training rogue nations is just like training children, dogs... When they are going in the wrong direction there must be consequences. More talk (threats of action) is just training them they _can_ get away with their deceit and how to do it better!

I was a part of that Government at one time. Thank God we still have our Marines.
I know that my Comrades take their oaths seriously and I seriously doubt that they will be part of subjugating the Civilian Population to Authoritarian Rule.
But should they, there are still many many many more of us who are former and retired Military who DID and DO take that oath seriously and we will NOT stand peacably by while some wannabe dictator in Washington DC tries to destroy our constitution.
We have fought and we will fight to prevent that.

He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County.
You mean to say that chiropractors are able to serve as flight surgeons in the Air Force?
Right. Because starting a war with a country four times larger than us is a safe and sane foreign policy.
No, China should simply be treated as a geopolitical and economic adversary. War with China is not necessary, yet.
I got the info that he was a chiropractor from a speech he gave where he said he was a chiropractor (I thought that's what he said but heck, I seem to have totally gone off the edge).

George Bush is in bed with Teddy Kennedy when it comes to education. Despite some of Paul's idiocy on foreign policy, he still kicks Bush's ass up and down when it comes to domestic issues.
