Show Provides Hawaiian Honeymoon
AKRON, Ohio -- Surprise! You're married!
An Ohio Marine just back from Iraq suddenly found himself at his own wedding Tuesday night, courtesy of a reality TV show.
Nathan Adey thought he was going to the Akron-Canton Airport for an Amy Grant concert to honor his Marine unit, which suffered heavy losses in Iraq.
But it was partly a ruse for Grant's show, "Three Wishes." Adey's fiancee, Alicia Dubravetz, had contacted the show.
Adey was called to the stage, and his fiancee appeared in a white gown. Her husband-to-be smiled broadly but was heard saying, "I'm about to faint."
He kept his composure and the couple exchanged vows before hundreds of friends and family members.
The TV show is treating them to a Hawaiian honeymoon.
Rubber City BUMP!!
And if he had said "No." ?
Some things really ought to be freely entered into with full reflection and preparation by both parties....like marriage. I don't think an "ambush wedding" is cute. Maybe someday this guy will reciprocate with a surprise divorce.
He will end up wishing that he had stayed in Iraq after she gets done with him.
You said it! Time in combat, etc. changes a soul. Marriage should be entered into with reverence and prayerful reflection. I wish them well, but fear the worst.
NORTH CANTON, Ohio - A member of a hard-hit Marine battalion who had to put off marrying his love to go to Iraq got his wish granted when a TV show threw him a surprise wedding.
Lance Cpl. Nathan Adey, 25, married 22-year-old Alicia Dubravetz on Tuesday in the ceremony that was taped for NBC's show "Three Wishes," hosted by singer Amy Grant.
The Akron couple's nuptials were attended by hundreds of friends, family and military supporters, including relatives of some members of Adey's 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines unit that were killed in the war. The battalion has lost 48 Marines, including 14 killed within a week this summer.
"This is great," said Michael Finke, whose son, Sgt. Michael Jr., died in Iraq in January. "I knew he would not be getting off of that bus at Brook Park. But he's with us. He's all around us."
The wedding was held on a stage at the Military Aviation Preservation Society Air Museum decorated with a large American flag and red roses. The bride wore a white, strapless gown and the groom wore his dress uniform.
Adey thought he was going to a concert.
"This was a shock to me. I had no idea," Adey said. "I thought I was going to pass out up there."
The couple had planned to be married before he went to Iraq, but he was deployed nearly a year ago and they pushed back the ceremony.
Adey and his fellow troops returned to huge welcomes last week in Brook Park, Akron and Columbus - cities where the battalion's companies are based.
This is now a "Society" story?
Oh man, you are a little grumpy today. I guess the story about the dog being stolen by a coyote is more newsworthy.
Anyway, it's now (back?) in news.
Aha! You are onto something! This is a great idea for the reality show's spinoff/sequal "Ambush Divorice"!
Okay, maybe I'm the grumpy one? LOL
But, the subject was listed as "Society" for a short time. No big deal and the original story is kind of weak compared to the later version I found.
Thanks.
I couldn't agree more. And to think if that man went through the troubles he did then the last thing he needed was this kind of shock into a big commitment.
They just like me better than you.
I sure hope they really do a concert to honor the Marine unit else it will be time to not only boycott Amy Grant concerts, but to ban even a mention of her name without the preceding words, "big phony".
My wife watches the show each week so I will be able to find out.
Appears that he got Shanghaied.
I would hope that the show did it's research well and was very confident that the guy wasn't the type to get cold feet.
did you READ the story...it was HIS wish..not hers. The old fashioned stereotypical sexism on this board is frightening.
I really like pork chops, but if I were ushered into a room, ordered to a chair, and commanded to eat some for the entertainment of a live audience and TV cameras, I don't think I'd enjoy them, no matter how hungry I was.

At least they were already engaged. There was a reality show a few seasons back where girlfriends ambushed their boyfriends with a "put up or shut up, get married right now on TV" ambush. If I recall correctly, none the of the guys bit.
