Neighbors say the victim has a roommate; police have no motive in fatal shooting
The body of a fatally shot Hurricane Katrina evacuee was found slumped in a front patio of a southwest Houston apartment early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Residents of the St. Charles Place Apartments in the 9000 block of Fondren found the 20-year-old man, who had moved into the complex about a month earlier, at about 6 a.m., police said. He had been shot in the head.
Neighbors found the body leaning against the gate of the front patio of a first-floor apartment that residents said the man shared with another man.
The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of his family, which may prove difficult, police said.
"The family is probably transplanted evacuees as well, so we're having a hard time tracking them down," Houston Police Department officer Todd Miller said.
Investigators did not find signs of forced entry into the apartment and said they did not have a motive for the shooting and have made no arrests.
A building resident who identified herself as Shabori Jones and who lives in the apartment next door to where the body was found said she heard about five gunshots coming from inside the apartment at about midnight Tuesday.
Investigators did not mention the whereabouts of the man who neighbors said shared the apartment with the victim.
Jones said the pair moved into the complex in mid-September after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. Neighbors said they did not get to know the two, and did not know their names or, apparently, their gender.
"We hardly ever saw them outside, and if you did, you wouldn't think they were two men," Jones said. The two dressed as women, convincing some residents that they were female, neighbors said.
It's the same reason these articles never make any sense. It's because no one in these neighborhoods will tell anyone anything be they police, reporters, etc. Typical responses include "some dude", etc.
Clearly this is Bush's fault.
Well, I hope it isn't Jabar Gibson.
It depends on where you live what your reaction would be. I used to live in a bad neighborhood where drive by shotting where very common. If fact violence of all types was very common. After awhile you stop calling the police. All you would end up doing is calling the cops every night and getting little response. You also just get sort of numb to the whole situation after awhile. I am not particularly surprised that she did not call the police after hearing shots if she was living in an area like I did.
Just making a joke actually.

Could a tiff have happened?
I think those two bozos (bozettes) showered in the "women's showers" and were arrested. Could be the same people. Unless there was a large population of cross dressing and transgendered New Orleans evacuees in Texas.
Well, considering they were from New Orleans, home of depravity for entertainment ... they were probably two of many screwed up people.
Well, I'm glad the cops didn't do it!
Will we NEVER stop hearing about Katrina victims? And just what does that have to do with the crime?
Just another monogamous long term 'gay' couple. Nothing to see here folks move along.
Islamic terrorism?
Didn't you read the hilarious posting early in the hurricane reporting about a sociologist from one of the universities in N.O. having 700 shots fired randomly into the air in one of the N.O. neighborhoods during the course of one day? No one reported a thing! I guess it was just normal background noise to them. LOL
The California Highway Patrol was chasing some high level drug dude from New Orleans two nights ago...he escaped froma bounty hunters' custody and with handcuffs on carjacked some lady.
