I'm following in the online news both the China and Russian incidents of children being shot.

There have been a series of attacks on schools and schoolchildren around China, some by people who have lost their jobs or felt left out of the recent economic boom.

A carpenter broke into a school in southern China in April and cut off part of a boy's ear with a kitchen knife and half a girl's middle finger.

So it is unemployment that drives people to mutilate children, then?

I always wondered about that.

In light of this key information, there is only one possible solution to the epidemic of attacks on children in China: government-sponsored jobs for everyone.
