Which means that if Miers is really as bright as a Harvard student (and certainly there are legitimate reasons for very bright people to go lower ranked schools)then she should have ranked #1 or #2 in her class. If she did, no one's said so. If she were a late bloomer, then she should have done something really brilliant and original later in her career. If she did, the Whitel House is keeping it a secret.
You can get where Harriet Miers did by being intelligent, tough, persistant and hard working. These are all admirable qualities, well suited to many kinds of sucessful careers. They don't help a lot however, when what is wanted is an unusual command of Constitutional Law and History, coupled with exceptional legal insight.

You at least have to admire the way that Ann stands by her guns. No surrender in her.
I have no problem with a non-judge being appointed to the bench, but I do kinda agree with Ann that there should be something exceptional about such a person. I have yet to see that exceptional quality in Harriet Miers.
