Senior U.S. intelligence officials call a letter from al Qaeda's No. 2 man to its leader in Iraq "chilling" because of how "calm, clear and well argued" it is in urging preparation for a U.S. departure from Iraq.
According to a translation of the 6,300-word letter provided by the U.S. government, Ayman al-Zawahiri predicts "the Americans will exit soon" from Iraq and says "things may develop faster than we imagine."
U.S. leaders have refused to set a timetable for troop withdrawals, saying such a move would embolden insurgents. Military leaders have suggested a reduction in 2006 is possible, depending on the preparedness of Iraqi security forces.
But in the letter, al-Zawahiri is clearly worried that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, with his televised beheadings of hostages and attacks on Shiites, could lose what he calls a "media battle" for the "hearts and minds" of Muslims. (Full textexternal link)
"I say to you: that we are in a battle, and that more than half of this battle is taking place in the battlefield of the media," al-Zawahiri writes.
"The Muslim populace who love and support you will never find palatable ... the scenes of slaughtering the hostages," he warns al-Zarqawi, self-proclaimed leader of al Qaeda in Iraq.

"I say to you: that we are in a battle, and that more than half of this battle is taking place in the battlefield of the media," al-Zawahiri writes. How comforting and encouraging it must be for the ragheads to know the American liberal media is squarely in their corner.

You know the left in all its wisdom is releasing a movie soon about how the brave Leftist Edward R. Murrow helped defeat the evil right wing Senator Tail Gunner Joe McCarthy. The same Senator who was a visionary and saw this country going to hell at the hands of the left and their lackey's in the MSM. and for his patriotism he was railroaded and vilified and continues to be vilified.
Its a crime how the MSM are the true traitors against America and the American way of life.

Gee, ya think this letter might back up that theory a bit?
We leave when the job is done and not a day sooner. Period.

Has anyone sent a copy of this to Howard Dean? Oh, never mind, he probably got his own copy directly from the source with a short thank-you letter.

Clean as a bell. CNN International supports any anti-American effort and the networks in the United States support the terrorist and have a dedicated agenda to get the US out of Iraq no matter the cost.
Just as they did in Vietnam the left-wing anti-American fascist in the Press will do or say anything to make sure the US is the bad person and that the enemies of the American people are the winners.
Boycott all US Media. White Time Warner and thank them for using your money to run a anti-American, hate America, network in CNN International.

"I say to you: that we are in a battle, and that more than half of this battle is taking place in the battlefield of the media," al-Zawahiri writes. Will someone please tell the New York Times! Then tell them to quit aiding the enemy? Or is that abetting?

Step 1: Tell everyone that the US is failing to embolden the opposition and wait until the pressure mounts to withdraw from the War on Terror.
Step 2: Grab power by saying the goals of democratizing Iraq are noble, but the strategy and mismanagement of the Republicans caused it to fail.
Step 3: Do not go back and try to fix things --- just spend money, appoint more liberal judges and expand the reach of gov't into your life.

I say, if they do another major terrorist attack then we should teach them the true meaning of jihad! It will be time to finish what they started.

He even ends by asking Zarqawi to send HIM money from Iraq!!
Which pile of rubble should it be adressed to. Hopefully he is buried under a very large one.

Chilling my ass. This letter reminds me of Hitler trying to direct his generals from inside the bunker with the Red Army at the door.
Al Quaeda is doomed.

I find his comments of the media being half the battle. See he knows one of our weakest links, the other is the leftest in and out of government. If he can win in the media they will win the war on terror. Unfortunately for him, the extremest cannot stop their cold blooded slaughter of innocent peoples and he cannot control the,.

He needn't worry - CNN will always be there to lend a hand. If this letter was "chilling" it was that it told the CNN staffers that the boys they've been rooting for are losing.

Something fishy here about the whole thing. I'm sure somewhere along the way someone at CNN and the MSM is thinking a CIA forgery. Its just sounds too suspicious.

The third stage: Extend the jihad wave to the secular countries neighboring Iraq. The fourth stage: It may coincide with what came before: the clash with Israel, because Israel was established only to challenge any new Islamic entity.
No surprise there. These people won't stop until we stop them.
To: crazycat
Yeah, this line really caught my eye too. The most revealing line in the whole letter.
Shouldn't the money be flowing the opposite direction?
