SSGT Doles was married to my cousin. We found out a day in advance that the WBC planned to protest. I was horrified. I didn't want John's children to have to see these horrible people. Well, thanks to the American Legion Riders, they didn't, and neither did any of the rest of us. The church sat right off the main street in Chelsea. The idiot protesters were on the main street on the opposite side of the street. The bikers blocked the street in a manner that we didn't have to see them and revved their engines very loudly so that we didn't have to hear them when they began to yell or chant. My family is so unbelievably grateful to them for doing what they did.. After the WBC's left, many of the bikers stayed around. I was very touched to see so many of them and local people lining the sides of the main street with American flags, hats off, hands over hearts, or holding banners and posters saying thank you to John.. When most of what you hear pasted all over the media is liberal garbage, it was a bit overwhelming to realize at that moment and at that time that there are people who still love this country as much as you do and truly appreciate your loved ones who are serving to protect them.
Everyone please continue to support our troops and their families. They are doing what they do for us.. Let's let them all know how very thankful we are...

I extend my deepest condolences to your family. I am very grateful for the sacrifice you have all made to preserve our freedom.
I'm also glad to hear that counter-protests like the awesome one by the American Legion Riders at SSGT Dole's funeral are appreciated and welcomed by the families of these brave heroes! I will try to get back "on the ball" so to speak and bring news of WBC's upcoming protests so that FReepers can help show their support for families like yours.
Thank you so much for taking the time to post.
God Bless,
LR

Please send the entire family my sympathies. One of our sons served with him at Polk. He was a good man and a good soldier.
