Beating victim: No anger toward police New Orleans officers plead not guilty to battery charges
Programming Note: Robert Davis, the man who was videotaped being beaten by New Orleans police, tells "NewsNight" what happened and how the police department has responded, tonight, 10 p.m. ET.
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- A retired teacher injured during a videotaped beating by New Orleans police says he feels no anger toward the department.
"I hold no animosity against anyone. I want to thank the new police chief for his quick action. I really do," 64-year-old Robert Davis said Tuesday.
Three officers have been suspended and local and federal authorities have launched investigations into the October 8 incident.
Joseph Bruno, the attorney for Davis, said his client does not believe the assault was racially motivated.
"I know there is a big temptation to go there, but my client firmly believes that is not what is involved here," Bruno said in an interview.
Instead, Bruno said, Davis believes he was assaulted by "a couple of rotten apples that need to be dealt with."

Davis certainly doesn't seem the type to be a regular problem for the police. He's no Rodney King.
"Joseph Bruno, the attorney for Davis, said his client does not believe the assault was racially motivated. "
Well, he said exactly that on TV the other night. So which is his true belief????
"Can't We All Just Get Along!"
He was supposed to appear in court today. Anyone hear if the police dropped the charges against him? Oh, and btw, they did no blood alcohol test on him...
I am usually on the side of the police, but I sure haven't heard anything come out that seems to explain why they did this. And I do think that NO police dept has/had some VERY bad apples. I will never forget the video of the police taking part in the looting....
While I don't believe the police should be hogtied, I do think that your average citizen should expect to not be attacked by those who are supposed to protect us. I sure wish the video started earlier in the situation.

Perhaps he had time to reflect. Sometimes in the heat of things we might say things that later, when we thought about them, seemed stupid, or incorrect, or whatever.
This guy just does not appear to be a bad guy. And what was up with the police attacking the media guy? I mean I've wanted to slap them myself before, but really, what WAS that officer thinking?

Now that is how something is dealt with maturely. Shame on the officers who attacked this man, and kudos to him for his calm and mature response. And to the police chief for dealing with this quickly and authoritatively.
And dont forget the police tackling that woman with the gun. THese guys need to be sent to singapore without a pension.
Sickening. They should all be fired.
You have no idea what this man thinks, so don't be impugning his character.
NO is one sorry place to live. No wonder the citizens took their chances with the storm rather than abandom their homes.
BZZZT! Wrong answer. Try again. Louisiana's punitive damage restrictions are quite likely to prevent him from being a rich man.
Why don't you try disparaging the real criminals in the matter.
Are you saying that you do? I'm right on the money -- it's marketing plain and simple.
I was very impressed with the man for not calling it racism, but "a few bad apples". That is putting it mildly in my opinion. The cop hit him so hard that it fractured his eyesocket. Since when does it take 4 cops to take down a 64 year old man after beating him senseless?
The NOLA police are an absolute disgrace.
A mature and Christian response -- doubt if I'd be that forgiving. Hope the cops rot in prison (general population), lose pensions, etc. They're way beyond "bad apples".
No, "marketing" is what you call the excuses dragged out by the cops who committed this brutality.
People who assume others are lacking are often lacking themselves.
