Well, they're awash in dollars, and dollars eventually find their way back home. Always. That's just the way it works, which escapes many so-called economists who fret excessively over the balance of trade. We trade pieces of paper for things of value. In this instance, the thing of value is oil. From a Saudi, or Arab or Persian, point of view, buying influence would be a logical use for some portion of what has to be an absolute mountain of US currency.

Off the top of my head, oil deposits are found by the analysis of seismic data after setting off a series of underground explosions
