I'm in favor of confirming this nomination as the most qualified person, where one of the most important qualifications is confirmability. Miers is almost certainly at this point the most qualified nominee.

But having said that I think Laura is out of line here and the criticism is not anti-woman. Except . . . GW Bush and Rove don't make tactical mistakes. And having said that, this quote by Laura is about Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe. They are locking up those two RINO votes.

The sheer genius of the Bush Rove team is mind boggling.

IMHO, Mike McConnell is the best legal mind on the list of contenders, but point well-taken!

"Kinda sounds like the Dems when they charge Republicans hate children when they oppose federally funded school lunches...or want to kill Seniors when they oppose new entilements."

Thanks - that's exactly what I was thinking. Sounds like the hypocritical invert-think that the RATS use on a regular basis. Particularly galling when it was Queen Laura who demanded a female be appointed to replace a female - but I guess sexism is okay when it's directed against men, huh?

Exactly. What the hell does the "glass ceiling" have to do with originalism. It just shows you they are out of touch.

I'm starting to see a pattern here when a Bush gets in high office.

This sexism charge is beyond stoo-pid, is utter nonsense and insulting.

The whole defense of Miers is beyond stupid and insulting. This whole debate is so intellectually dishonest. It is not about elitism or about sexism or about any other kind of bigotry. It is all about if Miers will rule like a conservative and in her 60 year carreer, Harriet Miers has given no indication that she would. Harriet has every appearance of being a moderate, albiet a conservative leaning moderate. Real conservatives have real reasons to be disappointed, and until the defenders can acknowledge that honestly they will get nowhere.

Yeah, but she once owned a .45 cal, have you considered that?

I mean, that's a much bigger gun than Diane Fiensteins .38.

John Marshall was in the House of Representatives and Secretary of State.

Harriet Miers ran the Texas Lottery Commission.

"I know Harriet well, I know how accomplished she is, I know how many times she's broken the glass ceiling herself. She is a role model for young women around our country," she said.

That's very nice, but is Harriet a moderate or a conservative? What is Harriet's position on the separation of church and state? What is Harriet's position on property rights? What is Harriet's position on states rights? In 60 years, Harriet has only given no indication on any of these issues. Harriet appears to be a moderate with some conservative values, but no one has any knowledge of how that will translate into her rulings.

All of us out here who wanted a Priscilla Owens, Janice Rogers Brown, Edith Jones, Edith Brown Clement, etc are all sexist. Makes sense to me.

FLOTUS should read Federalist Paper 76 for Hamilton's definition of cronyism. Miers fits all three.

No we just think it was a bad pick.

It is all about if Miers will rule like a conservative...

No, it's not. It's about whether Miers will rule as an originalist, not a conservative. Yes, there is a difference between the two: a conservative would jump at the first chance a case presented to ban abortion, while an originalist would refer said issue to the states.

Long interview, one big "gotcha" by the Today Show.

Great idea by the Dem spokespeople (the MSM) to deflect the real issues. Typical. Bush better wake up on this one...it's the press who pretends to speak for the conservatives when they are less than enamored by his choice, and they'll run with this sexist charge. For once, it's conservatives who are the "critics say..." but the press has no clue what they're critical of. Don't add fuel to the fire.
