AUSTIN, Texas Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers, who once owned a .45-caliber revolver (search), is not licensed to carry a concealed handgun in Texas. State officials refused Monday to reveal whether she has ever been licensed.
Miers' brother gave her the Smith & Wesson (search) handgun when he was worried about her living alone in Dallas. Judge Nathan Hecht of the Texas Supreme Court, a longtime friend of Miers', has said she kept the gun for a long time.

Owning and carrying are two different things.
Only one gun, and she received it as a gift rather than purchasing it herself?
I would rate that as being rather neutral on gun ownership.
She said that she's kept it for a long time. I'd like to know how often she shoots it.
I had a hard time operating a .45 auto so my weapon of choice when I lived in D/FW and drove alone at night after working late at the office sometimes, was a .357 (cheaper ammo for target practice using .38's). I barely weighed over 100 pounds at 5'5" but I practiced regularly and was quite proficient with it.
That piqued my curiosity too. I checked Davidson's Galley of Guns & S&W currently makes two models one in .45LC the other in .45AP
And why would her brother get her a .45 revolver? Like you say that's a 'lot of gun'. Why not a .38 special or 9mm?
Note: I don't know too much about S&W, like the N frame you mention, I'm more of a Colt kind of guy.
Well I'd F'n hope so!! We're not talking about Illinois here.
And TX what's up with such a low number? Only 230,000? There's over 350,000 here in FL. Get with it ya Texans, start packing!
I read last week (when this 'news' was first "leaked") that she fired it ONCE at a range, hit nothing, and put it away where it has since stayed.
An aside, I'm getting pretty irritated with Dubya and his people leaking all these little code word tidbits that are supposed to keep his base quite; Gun owner, Evangelical Christian, blah blah, blah.
I'm fond of the single actions myself, and i definitely have a weakness for old Browning Hi-Powers. Maybe obsession is more like it, i currently have 25.
I may be incorrect. But I think he claimed his son left the pistol at his home by mistake. (Good thing he had it available to him though.)
Oh man me too. Its almost spiritual
A couple years back I checked out the Colt Single Action Army but $1380.00 was-is waaay out of the budget. And their new Cowboy model is pretty good too and was +/-$680.00 and felt almost like the SSA. The Ruger Vaquero was about $100.00 less and not bad but it's a little thicker in the grips.
There's a few other brands now too, like US Firearms and Cimerron and Beretta makes a single action also. Cowboy action shooting is a fast growing sport.
I have my list for when I hit the lotto :-)
--he greeted someone at his door carrying it one night and it made the news--he was not a Second Amendment supporter--
In other words, her "friend" ratted her out. Or being this is Texas, it would be more accurate to say he bragged on her.
You keep listening to your Pope. I'll keep listening to Paul...
I timothy 4:1ff-
1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
6If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
9This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance 10(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.
Rather that engage in a scriptural hosefest, try actually thinking about what I wrote regarding Miss Miers.
Harriet Miers in Texas lawyer magazine, when asked about the Texas tower shootings.
A Sampling of the Writings of Harriet Miers
Sounds pretty strong on the 2A to me.
Mt 16:23- Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."
I read what you said, and disagreed.
