MONTCLAIR In a scene more reminiscent of the Wild West than modern railways, police shot and wounded a man who allegedly took over a freight train with a bow and arrow.
Juventino Vallejo-Camerena boarded the Union Pacific train at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday as it was stopped for a signal and threatened the engineer and conductor, the only people on board, police Capt. Keith Jones said. The crew members escaped and called police, Jones said.
The man was aboard the train when officers arrived at the scene in western San Bernardino County. The man cocked the bow and pointed the arrow at officers, who opened fire, Jones said.
Vallejo-Camerena suffered gunshot wounds to the left wrist and upper forearm that were not life-threatening, Jones said. The man was treated at Chino Valley Community Hospital and released to authorities.
He was booked into jail for investigation of train robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. It wasn't known when he would make his first court appearance.
Union Pacific representatives did not immediately return calls for comment Monday.
If this isn't the perfect example of Natural Selection, I don't know what is.
Any knucklehead can hijack a car. Hijacking a train has a certain style.
Let me guess. He was a visiting Spaniard. No? What then?
Researchers report that in households that have bows and arrows, incidents of train robbing and self-inflicted injuries from snapping bow strings is 457% higher than in households that do not have such weapons.
This is a clarion call to restrict such devices.
I have had a bow for years and still cannot figure out how to "cock it".
I love it! This shows just how pointless and futile gun conrol laws are. Is CA going to ban bows and arrows next?
how do you "cock" a bow and arrow ??
I've "nocked" an arrow...
We need to email this page to the moron...er I mean reporter...
http://www.hunter-ed.com/sc/course/ch5_nocking_an_arrow.htm
they'll put serial numbers on the bows and arrows-to bad if someone steals it
It's ism, I tell you!
At least he was smart enough not to try and hi jack a dangerous Amtrak Passenger Train.
Turn this thing around, we're going to Cuba!
You can cock a crossbow. IMHO your average California reporter wouldn't know the difference between a bow and a crossbow, or between a shotgun and a muzzleloader. Weapons are evil filthy nasty things that civilized people don't have anything to do with.
What amazes me is that this clown had the drop on the cops and didn't either release or surrender. What exactly did he think was going to happen in the next two seconds?
Was it an automatic machine fed cop killing arrow?
It is Arnold's fault. When illegal aliens can't have a driver's license, they will try to hijack a freight train.
Governor vetoes bill to grant licenses to illegal immigrants

SACRAMENTO, (AP) --
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday vetoed legislation that would have granted driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, saying that approving the measure into law could have undermined national security efforts.
The veto was expected and marked the second time Schwarzenegger has rejected such a bill.
"Enacting this bill will result in billions of dollars being spent on a process that ultimately could conflict with federal regulations," he said in his veto message.
The bill's author, Los Angeles Democrat Gil Cedillo, said the veto broke Schwarzenegger's promise to sign a driver's license bill. He also said the rejection jeopardizes the state's preparation for increased federal security requirements for all driver's licenses.
"He broke his promise to work out a resolution," Cedillo said. "We're committed to keeping America secure and our highways safe, and we're committed to that regardless of what the political climate is."
He said he would reintroduce the bill next year.
The action came as the governor faces a weekend deadline to sign or veto hundreds of bills sent to him by the Legislature. He also vetoed two bills related to easing the state's requirement that high school students pass an exit exam to receive a diploma
I'd like to try a recurve bow, that seems more fundamental - I like flintlocks and 1800's cultural stuff, I'd like to shoot whatever bow they used back in the 1750-1850's.

"Nocking" is merely getting the string in the little groove on the back end of the arrow. The string will snap into place, and hold the arrow slightly, which lets it stay in position when you pull back and aim.
"Drawing" is the function that prepares the arrow to fire.
