McCain Considers '08 Presidential Run (Gag-a-maggot Barf Alert)

NEW YORK - Arizona Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) is considering a 2008 run for president but says it's unlikely he'd take the No. 2 spot.

In an appearance Sunday at a fund-raiser for a local New York candidate, the Republican seemed to humorously rule out ever accepting a vice presidential post.

"I spent all those years in a North Vietnamese prison camp, kept in the dark, fed scraps, why the hell would I want to do that all over again?" he said, the New York Daily News reported in Monday editions.

McCain, who ran for president in 2000, was re-elected to a six-year Senate term in 2004.

He told the newspaper that he was seriously considering a 2008 bid. As he has before, McCain said he will wait until after the 2006 election to decide about his political future.

The Staten Island fund-raiser brought in $200 per person for Borough President James Molinaro, who is running for re-election.

If either Rudy or the McCainiac are the pick, I will sit that one out. I would prefer a true rat, not a rat's rat in pubbie clothing.

There's one issue on which I think many FReepers would tend to agree with McCain, and that's on spending restraint in Congress and the White House. That being said, I would hold my nose and vote for Rudy before I'd ever vote for One-Note Johnny. Rudy might be a social liberal, but you know where he stands on the issues. McCain holds his finger to the wind and is more interested in the personal aggrandizement of John McCain than in doing what's best for the country.

No way I can agree with that...
Voting for Hillary is ridiculous. Try and imagine 8 years of Hillary in office and of all the federal judges her administration she'd make. If you dislike Bush's SC picks, imagine Hillary's picks.
McCain, with all his faults, would be far better than her.

Well.. then I would say sit back and enjoy Hillary for 8 years.

Sorry I am done choosing the candidate that will suck less. I will vote for you if I agree wholeheartedly with you on at least 90% of the issues. The big ones, Illegal Immigration, Abortion and the Military....if you are lukewarm on any of those three, get someone else to vote for you because I won't.

It goes beyond that. If some terr perp had info on an eminent WMD attack upon America. To extract said info, I would personally pour molten lead onto their exposed privates, and that would only be for openers.

The way I figure it, McCain is probably at least as conservative as Bush has turned out to be. Not that McCain is a conservative..........

Well let me be the first to say - WELCOME TO FREE REPUBLIC.

Ditto here.

Shadotak, don't be disillusioned or scared off.........blood pressures and conviction run high here, especially about certain issues. Just hang in and continue. We all take heat here at some point or another.

As far as the "troll" accusations, just keep posting and prove them wrong.

(BTW...EVERYBODY was a "newbie" at some point...)

I could go on all day, instead I will send him an e-mail telling him ELEPHANTS WILL FLY before he gets my vote. Here is his contact info in the event anyone else would like to do the same.

Hillary sucks less than McCain. I'd never vote for either of them, but Hillary would have stronger opposition in congress because the GOP hates her personally.

With McCain, he'd get his crappy agenda through.

With Soros' $ & media backing, McCain will be able to "straight talk" his way through Iowa and New Hampshire. At that point he has the momentum and would be hard to stop.
