In Time of Studied Ambiguity, A Label for the Manly Man (NY Times Proclaims Clinton 'Ubersexual')
NY Times ^ | 10/10/2006 | Andrew 'Andy' Newman

The trend spotting authors who popularized the term 'metrosexual' to categorize sraight men who exfoliated, wore Diesel Jeans and took longer to get ready than their girlfriends have decided that the two year old phenomenon is, well, so two years ago.

The new ideal, according to Marian Salzman, Ira Matathia and Ann O' Reilly in their new book, 'The Future of Men,' is the 'ubersexual.'

In contrast to the metrosexuals who risk being 'sad sacks who seem incapable of retaining their sense of manhood in postfeminist times,' ubersexuals 'mark a return to the positive characteristics of the Real Men of yesteryear (strong, resolute, fair).'

Unlike metrosexuals, 'ubersexuals don't invite questions about their sexuality.' The authors recently released a list of the 'top 10 ubersexuals' with Bono at the top, followed by George Clooney and Bill Clinton.

Ms. Salzman, said that ubsersexuals would stand also out as a distinct group, distinguishing themselves by reading by Esquire and Sports Illustrated, shopping less but more discriminately and favoring men over women as their closest friends.

'Men in my view don't want products that are derivative of female products,' she said. 'They want things that are male rather than feamle.'

Ms. Salzman, executive vice president of the advertising giant JWT, said she was consulting last year for a mens skin care line when she realized 'there had been a push back against metrosexuality, the softness of it,' and it led her to recommend 'more clean smelling and less perfumey items.'

I would have thought "übersexual" meant oversexed...which would work as well.

The New York Times would have to be about _THE LAST_ place on earth for anyone to turn for information about "Manly Men". The NYT is the handbook for Metrosexuals and Girly-men.

Since the NYT is good for no more than lining your birdcage , its best to cancel the Sunday paper. Theres too much left over for recycling.

The authors say "ubersexuals" are men with no questions about their sexuality. Then they put George Clooney on their list as an example of one of these "men".
I believe there are many people who aren't quite sure about Mr. Clooney's "sexuality".

The Ubersexual hide behind a woman's skirt every time he got in trouble, letting them do his dirty work.

Ubersleazy is more like it.

Well said. Or any other mass-media, for that matter.

Being a man is not a result of reading a magazine article. If one needs to read something to find out, you're already too far gone.............

It's been hinted at in more than one blind item.
