Give me a break...Delphi (upper management voted a big pay raise by the way before the bankruptcy filing) workers were offered $12.00 per hour for 'unskilled' (really no such thing) and $19.00 per hour 'skilled'. Lower management just had their pay cut 20%. You call this reasonable?
You can't be seriously suggesting that GM's labor is underpaid, can you? UAW are overpaid. Also, even if you cut the exectives' pay to $1 per year, it wouldn't make a dent in GM's pension and payroll obligations.
"You can't be seriously suggesting that GM's labor is underpaid"
No, actually I'm suggesting that both management and labor at GM are overpaid. I was just commenting about how the first point of attack is the worker.
GM could reduce their labor costs to $0.25/hr per employee and still lose money. Their designs are uninspired, their product offering plans are non existant, and their quality (as dictated by management not employee ineptitude), is weak.
"You call this reasonable?"
Nope. I don't. It seems to me GM has already planned their next move. They're going to go bankrupt. Push the pensioners to the pension guarantee corp, and move as much of their manufacturing operations offshore as possible.
I think they should move their corporate offices to Banglore and hire an all Indian management team.
GM is going to be the final push to drive us into recession.
