JAMMU: In gruesome pre-dawn strikes, militants, allegedly belonging to pro-Pak Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, killed ten members of two Hindu families by slitting their throats in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir today, police sources said here.

A group of militants belonging to Hizbul's so called Pir Panchal regiment led by its self-styled Deputy Divisional commander, Sangat Pathan alias Abu Hamza swooped on Rajnagar area of Budhal tehsil in Rajouri and barged into the house of Munishi Ram late on Sunday night.

Some of the militants helped themselves to the food later in the wee hours, killed Munshi Ram, his two sons, a brother and nephew by slitting their throats. All of them died on the spot, the sources said adding that the killers then fled the scene.

The same group is supposed to have later gone to Mora Gabber village nearby and forced their entry into the house of Kartar Singh and killed him and his three sons, the sources said.

Kartar's fourth son was injured in the attack. The militants also killed one Satbir Singh and Nazir Hussain in the area during their killing spree, they said. However, no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the killings thus far.

Police has launched a hunt to trace the attackers and suspect the involvement of Hizbul Mujahideen, which had warned people in rural areas from passing on information about them to police and security forces, they said.

Now, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen suspends violence

AGENCIES[ MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2005 04:33:01 PM ]

SRINAGAR: Even as Indian police reported fresh bloodshed in Kashmir, the Jehad Council, an amalgam of 14 militant outfits based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, has announced temporary suspension of its operations in the ravaged areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

The decision to suspend temporarily the operations in the state was taken at a meeting convened by the chairman of Council and supreme commander of Hizbul Mujahideen Syed Salahuddin at Muzaffarabad, a local news agency quoting a fax from the organisation said on Monday.

Salahuddin asked all the constituents of the council to direct the militant cadres across the state to halt their operations in the affected areas and extend possible relief to the victims.

The United Jihad Council, faxed a statement to the local Kashmir News Service saying militant operations were on hold in regions affected by Saturday's devastating 7.6-magnitude earthquake.

There was no immediate formal response from the Indian army, which continued its operations in Kashmir.

Amid the announcement of a truce, police said suspected militants had killed 11 people late on Sunday and early on Monday, most of them Hindus the majority population in India but the minority in Indian Kashmir None of the roughly dozen rebel groups operating in Kashmir claimed responsibility.

Meanwhile Indian army Colonel Hemant Juneja said eight rebels were killed by troops late on Sunday in Kashmir's northern Gulmarg sector after they refused to surrender.

The army said it was setting up field hospitals as well as supplying food and shelter for the worst hit areas of remote mountain villages in northern Baramulla and Kupwara districts.

In the town of Uri more than 300 people were killed, and hundreds faced freezing temperatures at night in makeshift tents.

The militants were not expected to be involved in distributing relief but moderate separatist politicians who also want to secede from India have been helping get aid out to affected areas.

"I have brought blankets, rations and mineral water for the victims. I and my volunteers are going to camp in Uri," Yasin Malik, a senior separatist, said.

Yes, very.

BTW, these A-holes have offered to suspend violence because they are in a position of weakness now, with a large fraction of their cadre under the quake-induced landslide. Attack when they have a chance, and shout for peace when they don't. How Islamoleftist™ !

That's really nice of the ROP to suspend violence in the name of Allah. Of course there may be nothing left to blow up too...

Do many still wonder if this "religion" is evil or not? And I don't want to hear you apologists squealing that it's only the extremists, or that there are violent Christians, too. A violent ribbon runs through the whole of islam.
