NEW YORK - A reported plot to bomb city subways with remote-controlled explosives has not been corroborated after days of investigation, law-enforcement officials said Sunday amid an easing sense of concern. ADVERTISEMENT
Interrogations of suspects captured in Iraq last week after an informant's tip about bomb-laden suitcases and baby carriages have yet to yield evidence that the plot was real, officials said.
"The intelligence community has been able to determine that there are very serious doubts about the credibility of this specific threat," Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke said. "This is after ongoing review and analysis."
Homeland Security officials have been skeptical about the threat since it was publicly announced Thursday, but officials who were more assertive about the potential danger last week also appeared to be softening their assessment.
"I believe in the short term we'll have a much better sense of whether or not this has, you know, real substance to it," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said on CNN's Late Edition.
A Homeland Security memo said the attack might have been planned to take place on or around Sunday.

NYC Terror Threat Ping.
" A reported plot to bomb city subways with remote-controlled explosives has not been corroborated after days of investigation, law-enforcement officials said Sunday amid an easing sense of concern."
AND AN ACTUAL 'suicide bomber' blowing himself up at Oklahoma State University(near a stadium packed with 84,000 fans),with a remote controlled device, HAS NOT BEEN 'INVESTIGATED' to anyone's SATISFACTION, amid A GROWING SENSE OF ALARM!! Give me a break!
We all know what happened, we all know this guy was a threat, but it doesnt need to be all over the media...If we know about it i can assure you the govt does..now take the tinfoil off.
Thank you for saying that. This has been bothering me for awhile now!
Actually, scratch that last comment you are right!
Gee, so according to you, we should all just "move along, nothing here..."
Some of us, especially some of us who live in the area, think maybe it's time the "authorities" quit sweeping terror under the rug!
Agreed. You'd think the Wall Street Journal would have covered that story...
One above you...i corrected myself...
Hmmm to push bombs in baby carriages?

TURKEY: AL-QAEDA FEMALE TERROR RECRUITING UNCOVERED
Ankara, 6 Oct. (AKI) - The Turkish authorities are reported to have thwarted a series of terrorist attacks planned for the month of Ramadan, according to Saudi daily al-Watan. The paper quotes a security source in Ankara as saying that they had uncovered training operations by groups linked to al-Qaeda, who were recruiting 50 women for bombing missions. The report said that their task was preparing explosive devices to place in tourist spots frequented by foreigners but the source gave no further details.
In August, the Turkish authorities arrested Syrian Lui Sakka, considered the head of Osama bin-Laden's netowrk in Turkey. He was caught at Diyarbakir airport and interrogated by the Istanbul police as he was preparing an attack against Israeli passenger ships.
Sakka was later charged by an Istanbul court for being a member of the al-Qaeda terror organization.
Thank you. I just honestly think that instead of covering things up, they should report what happened honestly. People can be put in danger because of lack of, or bad information. Worse, we tend to lose trust in those who report, and those who are in power.
Not meaning to be too picky - but it is important to note that it was at the University of Oklahoma (Norman) NOT Oklahoma State University (Stillwater). Facts are important.
I also think this "fight" over whether the intelligence was good...and whether it should have been announced, between Homeland Security and New York officials...
puts us all more at risk, and uneasy with these alerts.
I don't care if Homeland Security was upset...they should have told the NY officials behind the scenes...and clarify for future purposes how it should be handled.
But, to have this public of a "hissy fit"...is stupid, childish, and potentially dangerous.
I wonder if Jamie Gorelick had anything to do with it? LOLOLOL
"This goes to show us just what we are up against. I wonder how many 'threats' officials have had to deal with that we don't even know about. It's all part of the terrorists agenda........to terrorize."
But..I am not feeling 'terrorized' at all..I am feeling pissed off at the OU officials, the FBI and the media for not talking straight to the American people(not to mention the parents that have students there). I am a realist and so am a bit 'immune' to the propaganda of the enemy(Islamofascists)..I am now left feeling HELPLESS in the face of the PC police and left winged media in MY OWN COUNTRY!
Makes ya wonder, doesn't it? Did you hear Jerry Brown the other day insisting Bloomberg was just being "political" and there was no danger at all? I know it's not healthy to hate, but I really hate Democrats.
duly noted..(wink)
This isn't the same "intelligence community" that FAILED TO "CORROBORATE" terrorist plans prior to 09-11-01 is it?
