Maybe Gov. Tim Pawlenty was just out of practice after a year without professional hockey. The governor made an embarrassing slip of the tongue as he led the crowd in a cheer at the season opener for the Minnesota Wild hockey team. All 30 National Hockey League teams were back in action Wednesday after a year of labor unrest.
The script called for the governor to say: "It's time to drop the puck. So everybody say it with me - 'Let's play hockey!"'
It was the governor's tripping over the word "puck" that provoked the snickers. Instead of telling people to drop the puck, he used a very similar-sounding word that made him sound more like Tony Soprano than his usual smooth-talking self.
"It was an unfortunate slip of the tongue, and I am sorry for that. I tried my best to say it as they wanted me to say it, and it just came out," Pawlenty said Thursday.
The Minnesota Wild have had a string of guest announcers for the "Let's play hockey chant." Pawlenty is well known for his love of playing and watching hockey.
The NHL deserved it!
Well, since the people's capacity to hear what they want to, [whether it was indeed spoken or not] is unlimited, a more experienced politician would be indignantly insisting that he was misheard, rather than apologizing for misspeaking..
What the puck!
How true.
I guess from now on, it's, 'WTP?'
He should have told the reporters to go "puck off!"
I nominate the PUCK for the honorable place in the FR library, righ next to hugh, seriesly!
Aw, just puck it.....
But .. you all know that if a democrat had made that "slip of the tongue" - IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IGNORED.
The media is getting waaaaaaay too petty with their demonizing ALLLLLL republicans.
Duck?
That was his predecessor, Jesse Ventura.
Its Bush's fault!.... sorry.
And in other news, we have John F'ing Kerry.... LOL
I'm sure that will get him a few more votes in Minnesota.
