There was a divorce, after they came to Colorado from Illinois, according to a few hits I got on Google, back during the early part of the week.
Nothing to find on the father, specifically. You'd think a software engineer would pull a page or two.

No, they're not divorced. That's what I thought, too, but the only story that mentioned anything about it was one from the Colo Springs Gazette, which said that the mother still lives there in town, but that she and her husband have *recently* separated.
That explained why I couldn't find any trace of a divorce in the CO divorce proceedings records.
I know a whole lot more now and will start posting it shortly. It's just the factual data, but it's a start--and I have to be careful what part I post (meaning no addresses, phones, stuff like that), so it's going to take me a while and it might dribble out. I've already been doing that on the "BIG" thread, so I'll probably put it there.
