MOSCOW, Russia A new major Jewish educational complex has been constructed adjacent to the Jewish Community Center in the Marina Roscha district of Moscow.
The 6,000 square meter school building and complex will mark its grand opening this Sunday, October 9th. This will be a historic event since this constitutes the newly-constructed Jewish day school in Russia to be inaugurated since prior to the revolution in 1917.
This building will house an Ohr Avner Chabad Day School for over 300 children, as well as serving as an educational center for extra-curricular programs, to be held after school hours, for youth who are not currently enrolled in Jewish schools.
While there are currently dozens of Jewish schools across Russia supported by the Ohr Avner Chabad network, headed by FJC President Lev Leviev, all of these institutions operated out of buildings renovated from already existing structures. This is the first time that a Jewish day school building has been constructed from the ground up.
This educational complex was built on a large plot of land, transferred to the Federation of Jewish Communities by the Moscow City Administration. In future, this will also be the site of the Jewish Museum of Russia and the Russian Jewish Medical Center, both of which are now in the planning stages.
Is this Orthodox?
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
It is run by Chabad.
meanwhile the federations will lunch.
I understand that the Russian government donated the building material to help build it. They apparently got it from Chernobyl
